First of all, you’re way overvaluing Westbrook. I think most NBA GM’s would value this as barely 1 for 1 with Westbrook being SLIGHTLY more valuable then Rondo. Like a draft pick worth. Not another player.

Secondly, why would the Thunder want to give away Westbrook? Even if Westbrook is unhappy, the Thunder have PLENTY of time to work this out. I’ve heard that rumor too of Westbrook wanting a max deal, but I’m sure that even if it is true, Westbrook’s agent will knock some sense into him. Westbrook is NOT a max player, and NO ONE is going to give him a max deal. He’s no KG or LeBron.

Although if Isaiah Thomas becomes the Knicks GM again…..and pigs fly, then Westbrook may get a max deal!

Your fellow New England fans do. They somehow really believe that having a bunch of paid mercenaries representing their region actually makes them somehow more relevant in life. News flash: It doesn’t. Your region still sucks as far as homegrown talent, which is the only measure of how well a region does sports-wise. Paying someone to do what you cannot do doesn’t make you anything more than a pencil-necked geek who has to live vicariously through someone else.

Even if they r rebuilding u dont do it now, u wait until the off season. Nobody they bring in is going to change the fate of this team unless they r named Lebron, or D Rose. Its too early to panic, Doc is a great coach, they just need more depth, losing Perk was dumb and i think Bass is better, but chemistry wins titles

Ainge doesn’t like Rondo anyway. I’d look for him to try to package one of the Big Three with Rondo if he could find a taker.
It should also be pointed out that though Allen is having a good offensive year, he’s a step slow on defense and he’s throwing the ball away too much.

You sir need to stop smoking. Durant doesn’t need anyone to feed him. He can be a spot up, pop up, drive the lane, hit the three, anything you need him to do. Also the fact that Westbrook is Westbrook takes defensive pressure off Durant cause he is a scoring threat. I rather teach Ibaka and Perkins some post up offense than bring a distributor to force them score.

Sam Presti would never agree to any of that. He’s going to do whatever it takes to keep the core of Durant, Westbrook, Harden and Ibaka. You are basically saying that the Thunder would trade Ibaka for KG. A freakishly athletic shot blocker with tremendous upside for an aging former superstar on the downside of his career. And on the other side of your deal the Thunder would be giving up one of their 3 scorers for a pass first PG who can’t shoot. As much crap as Westbrook takes (some deserved) the Thunder NEED his scoring unless Durant can score 50 a game.

No way man. The Thunder are the Thunder BECAUSE they have Westbrook and Durant. Mixing and matching other pieces would make them the Celtics all over again like that trade of Perkins for Green. Don’t mess with chemistry and a good thing. And Rondo is Boston. Build around him, don’t trade him. (Although I would LOOOOOVE to see him leave Boston!)

I was talking to a buddy of mine about this earlier and it’s a different take on the whole thing, it’s been rumored that russel Westbrook is unhappy with the thunder due to no extension, I think a westbrook for rondo trade would be huge for the celtics, a young athletic high scoring point guard with Allen pierce and Garnett, reenergized much yup. Or how about rondo, kg, and another for Westbrook and maybe perkins or ibaka. The thunder need a low post offensive threat, kg, the need someone to distribute Durant the ball not take shots from him, rondo. I think this trade helps both squads.

I thought this team could re-tool for one more run with a healthy Jeff Green. It is apparent now that this team is done. They have yet to beat a team with a winning record. They are in the same boat as Orlando in a way – there is value to trade and get something in return to build on for the future. Trade as much of the Big Three as possible for picks. With a deep draft, Rondo, a re-signed Jeff Green, Boston can start a new chapter and be competitive quickly without completely disintegrating into the abyss of endless losing.

It really depends on how good the young players coming back would be. If they can’t find good enough trades, they’d be better off just letting the the Big 3 leave through FA or retire, and be awful for a couple of years to get high lottery picks.

Of course you make a deal for any of the elder Celts – if it’s a good one that is.

Every fan in Boston and elsewhere knows the current team isn’t Championship caliber. If you can get something rather than nothing for the pieces, build around Rondo and bring in some free agents who can’t contend, you do it.

Those free agents know that Ainge will do what it takes to win…the very fact that he’d consider letting Pierce go if it’s in the long term best interests of the team speaks volumes to them.

If its a good deal, pull the trigger and get something rather than nothing and free up the cap space to compete.

Living through the first big three it is clear that doing nothing is the wrong thing to do. With the layout of the league as it is the Celts will not win another title with this core. If there is value to be had grab it while you can.
