For 22 million you expect a guy like that to be a leader. If he’s unwilling/ incapable, then he’s worthless to the team. Unload him ASAP. Cassell may be on his last legs with the team too, but he is a coach and the whole situation should have been handled like professionals, not like some street thugs.

Problem is, he’s what keeps them above the salary floor. Amnesty him, you still have to replace his $ on the roster, and you’re probably not going to find anything better at this point of the season.

Lewis shouldn’t even be on the court. The Wiz went young, they’re prepared to junk the season, why waste time on him when they have 2 1st-rounders who need to catch up? And yes they need maturity, but someone w/ 22mil guaranteed isn’t the one to bet the farm on. You can find someone who understands it’s an honor to play in the NBA, and considers themselves lucky to make minimum.

the hostility is not towards the stat itself, its towards the reasons why it is used. I believe basketball bloggers started to use more stats like PER for reasons outside of player relevance. I think they want to have the sabermetrics feel and have stats like WAR in baseball, while WAR can tell you a lot about a baseball player, PER can’t tell much about Rashard Lewis. I’m not against advance stats, but i’m also not surprised you labeled me to be so, since the usage of advanced stats has become more of a brand/cult than a information tool.

Wow. That much hostility for a stat? Advanced stats very much so have their place in every sport. Why should we be forced to stick to the same old stats of the past 100 years? While advanced stats are a best pairing with baseball, since it’s about a constant one on one matchup, they still allow you to get more pieces of a puzzle with other sports. No one stat can tell you an entire story, so the more stats, and the more thought that goes into them, the better for the fan. You don’t have to run off and look up these stats if you don’t like, but to bash a sports blog for using advanced stats is a little ridiculous.

O wait basketball and baseball are completely different sports, and advance statistics in basketball are far more misleading and far less relevant. Just because its the hipster trend doesn’t mean you have to punish all 5 of your readers.

Get rid of the guaranteed contracts in pro sports to elminate one player from destroying a season for a team, franchise and fan base. Sure a team would have to take a financial hit somehow for dropping a player, but one guy should not set back a franchise for many years.

This was and is still a problem with NBA, a player of Lewis’ caliber was not worth Max money but some foolish GM gave it to him. The NBA should of eliminated the max contracts.
