sooo, based on those numbers, a “max” contract for Love is 5yr $72 million. nowhere near DRose’s 5yr $94 million. That MVP award for Rose kicked his 25% up to 30%, which got him an extra $22 million on his “max” deal. Love can’t get the same without an MVP award.

you’re wrong. Love can only earn a percentage of his team’s salary cap, based on his years in the league. it doesn’t matter how much a team WANTS to pay him, he’s still limited by the CBA cap. The maximum amount of money a player can sign for is contingent on the number of years that player has played and the total of the salary cap. The maximum salary of a player with 6 or fewer years of experience is either $9,000,000 or 25% of the total salary cap (2010–11: $14,511,000), whichever is greater. For a player with 7–9 years of experience, the maximum is $11,000,000 or 30% of the cap (2010–11: $17,413,200), and for a player with 10+ years of experience, the maximum is $14,000,000 or 35% of the cap (2010–2011: $20,315,400).

Love isn’t going to get DRose money (5 yrs $94 million) because Love hasn’t a) won an MVP, b) been twice voted as an All-Star starter, or c) been twice named to an All-NBA team (first, second, or third).

Sure, it is an assumption that a guy who spends lots of his off time in LA, went to college there , would like to play for a franchise with loads of history and is in the midst of some big changes.

It is never going to change, stars want to play in big markets for more oportunities outside of the game. There are a few exceptions, but not so sure Love is one of those guys.Maybe he is.

Probably the most overrated player in the league right now. Stats are great, but they are empty numbers. Put this guy on a great team and he’s the third best player, maybe. No Defense, wacky shot selection, etc

Yeah, there’s not a person on the planet who thinks a guy who Never gets less than 14 boards, who usually gets upwards of 23 points, who is improving on defense every day, and is top five in free throw attempts isn’t worthy of max or close to max money.

Oh, and he shoots threes at a 42percent clip.

Love is probably the least flashy PF around but he is so fundamentally sound. Although he can shoot the 3 exceptionally well which most cannot. I notice a lot of people ripping on his defense but the game last night (vs Spurs) I saw him coming over on to help a lot on defense and even got 2 or 3 blocks. Kahn has made it very clear that Love will get a contract offer. He would get fired on the spot if he does otherwise.

Contrary to the opinions of some, I feel Love IS a max dollar player. Who says a guy has to run like the wind or jump out the gym to be a max player? Love reminds me of a much better version of Bill Laimbeer. I’d love (pun intended) to see him with the LAKERS alongside Bynum. I’d give up Pau in a heartbeat for him!!

You cant ask much more of Kevin Love. He runs around trying to gather up all of the rebounds from the horrible shots Beasley throws up. Hopefully Williams and Rubio will develop quickly and they will be able to do something. If a guy is giving you 20 rebound games he is earning his keep.

So if the figures hold, Love will be eligible for a 5yr/94mil extension like D Rose. Now there’s not a person on the planet, shy of Love’s agent, who thinks he’s worth that kind of money.

Love should get a good deal, but Minny would have to pay him pretty close to that Max money to get him to stay. If they don’t offer it up, he’ll go elsewhere, for a few bucks less perhaps, but still enough to ensure he’ll be set for life.

I thought Love was as good as gone to one of the LA teams at the first possible chance. Maybe to Portland as a long shot…but probably somewhere on the West coast.

Now, with Rubio/Love showing some signs of being at least a reasonable, pale, ground-bound facsimile of Lob City, I think there is a good chance he stays. Especially since the T-Wolves can pay him considerably more than anyone else.

His a good player but until he plays defense and takes his team to the playoffs lets chill with the crowning. His been there for 4 yrs and his team has not sniffed the 8th seed

Kevin Mchale actually made a good call on a draft pick for a change. Love is a limited player athletically but gets the best out of his ability. Who gets 20 + rebounds anymore? I remember thinking Mchale was an idiot for taking Love over Mayo. It could just be a matter of OJ’s situation in Memphis, but so far Love is the superior player.

What a special player this guy is…with his ability to lead the NBA in rebounding while also stepping back and knocking down nearly 100 3-pointers. It makes you wonder how good some of these other physical freaks would be if they had half of the fundamental know-how that Love possesses. One of a kind…

I always thought Love would bolt the second he was able to but if he will resign then the T-Wolves would be crazy not to. There arent many guys that work as hard as Love and even less willing to sign long term in small markets.

Just send Love to LA for Gasol. Love wants to be a Laker, while having Gasol and Rubio playing together will be good for the league.
