Paul Pierce says he’s close, expect him to play Friday

Expect to see Paul Pierce back in a Celtics uniform when they take on the Pistons Friday.

Nothing is official yet, but that has been the rumor for a while. Then came this tweet from Pierce on Thursday:

I’m close very very close very

Celtics fans will forgive the odd grammar if he gets back on the court and stops the 0-3 slide.

On the flip side, Pierce said later he was “here to bowl” so maybe he was playing, but it didn’t feel like it (the tweets were a ways apart).

Thing is, offense has not been the Celtics problem so far, that has been there defense — teams are shooting 49.6 percent against Boston so far, second worst in the league. Maybe that is rust from the condensed training camp and reduced exhibition games, but they had better get that end of the court squared away fast or Pierce will prove not to be the answer.

Pierce is like an Italian soccer player. I’ll never forget him being wheeled off in a wheelchair with a towel over him, only to run back out onto the court minutes later. A bruised heel? I wonder what his teammates think of him? What a skirt.

I love when a guy on a messageboard calls an athlete a skirt when he has no idea the severity of an injury. My guess is mdpickles has never had a bruised heel let alone shot a basketball.

His next tweet was “I’m here, let’s bowl”. Did you miss that?

Not sure Pierce is gonna help much. He had trouble staying in front of people last year, and he didn’t get younger over the summer. And now his heel hurts.

He also cannot create his own shot anymore.

Boston’s biggest problem is at 4 and 5 anyway. Garnett has looked old and uninterested. Jermaine O’Neal has put up Hank Finkel’s numbers in a starter’s minutes.

Disagree. Pierce is still their leading scorer and the biggest need for an old team is depth. Add in Pietrus and it makes them more versatile.

I do agree their frontcourt has some gaping holes, and this still isn’t a championship team but Pierce will help them a lot.
