Ray Ray is right,there are few opportunities for a ring and if he could get close to 10mil/yr playing for the Celtics and a shot at the title, why not sit tight and let the deal happen? I’ll bet $10,000 that the Pacers won’t win a title in next 2yrs or 3yrs…..ok make it $10. West will be long forgotten after his career and Ray will be in the Hall of Fame because of his 3point shooting and that ring. Ray Allen should also be remembered for negotiating that big fat deal in Seattle on his on without an agent taking 10% or whatever–West could have saved/made at extra 1-2million on that alone.

Ray spoke nothing but the truth and I’m glad he called him out. He’s been in the league long enough to know that there’s plenty of guys who’d rather get paid more than win a championship.

As a Pacers fan it was nice to see us get a free agent for once. I think.. considering their age and injury situations… its a stretch to call the Celtics contenders. That window has closed. Sure we may only be a 7th or 8th seed playoff team but in the end neither my Pacers or Celtics will be winning anything that matters.

Allen is a old version of LeBron. “you should want to play with us because….hey, it’s me!”
A guy doesn’t want to join a team taht many, legitimately, think is past it’s championship window. They have no bench, and a old starting 5, not a good mix. Why would West want to go there for an outside chance at a title (about the same as in Indy with him there, IMO), just to be stuck there solo in 2-3 years when they retire?

The only think Allen is “on” is haterade

Not really sure if this particular situation applies, but Allen is making a valid point regarding certain player moves throughout all leagues. Money quite often trumps the goal of winning championships. Hard to say if this situation qualifies, since we have no way of knowing what West’s reasoning was, unless he speaks on it himself. But, it’s undeniable that players have moved in similar fashion in the past.

In Indiana he’d start and play a bigger role on an up and coming team. Unless the Celtics were gonna put him or KG at center, then West would have been the 6th man and shadowed by the Big 3 and Rondo.

I’m pretty sure none of those 3 clowns took a penny less to join, or in Pierce’s case, stay with the Celts. Yeah, Pierce and Allen are taking less than max now (not that they could’ve fetched more on the open marktet), but they’re still keeping the Celts in cap purgatory until they’re off the books.

I love these superstars whining about how they stayed with their small market teams until leaving much later in their careers to join a contender. They had every opportunity to leave much sooner. They could’ve played out their rookie contracts, signed a 1-year qualifying offer, then been a free agent after 5 years. But of course they don’t. They sign the biggest, fattest extension they’re able to sign, put they’re teams in a cap-crunch from there on out, and then force their way to the team of their choosing via trade and thus preserving their monster guaranteed contracts. The new “Rose Rule” is only going to make it worse.

I thought Blake Griffin might’ve been the first such star to bail on his team without signing that first mega extension, but the addition of CP3 may lead him to stay after all. Can’t say for sure yet because if anyone can screw it all up, it’s Donald Sterling.

Everyone should quit overlooking the Pacers. They are potentially 12 players deep with some really talented young talent. Ray Allen should be careful, because Indiana is a team that could upset a weak front-court team of dinosaurs in the playoffs ala Memphis V. San Antonio last year.

Seems unnecessary for Ray Allen to call him out like that. Is he just bitter? Not to mention, the reason he didn’t go to the Celtics was because they couldn’t afford him without a S&T with the Hornets.
