The Knicks are AT LEAST 1 year away. As of this offseason, they’ve lost their starting PG and gotten a starting C. Probably an upgrade, but definitely need something to happen in the backcourt to compete. The day Landry Fields and Mike Bibby is a championship contending backcourt is the day I sign with the Lakers.

All sympathy to Green and his family, and here’s hoping that he returns and has a great career.

But Green was never impressive last year. If anything, Marquis Daniels was more impressive before he got hurt. So all the Celts have lost this year is Green’s so-far-unfulfilled potential. Last year they lost Perkins, and that’s still the problem. You don’t go to war with J. O’Neal because he’s going to break down sooner rather than later.

The Boston Globe speculated that the league might let the Celtics pay the same price for another player as they would have had to pay Green. I would think $9 million would get you more than James Posey, who was old two years ago. Is there really no one else out there?

Concede the season and see what you can get for the Big 3. No bench, the geezers will be worn down halfway through the season, a big beautiful draft class coming up…They need to be replaced eventually. The season’s already a joke. Jumpstart the rebuilding process.
