Kobe Bryant’s wife of more than 10 years, Vanessa, has filed for divorce.

This has been in the works for a little while, Vanessa signed the papers on Dec. 1, Kobe responded on Dec. 7. The papers were filed on Friday in Orange County with Vanessa citing irreconcilable differences.

We know your mind just flashed back to Eagle, Colo., and the sexual assault charge from 2003, but that was eight years ago and she stuck with him through that. There are rumors of infidelity, but we don’t know what really went on inside the Bryant household that led to this, all we really know is this can’t be easy for their two young daughters, ages 5 and 8.

The couple released a statement.

“The Bryants have resolved all issues incident to their divorce privately with the assistance of counsel and a Judgment dissolving their marital status will be entered in 2012. We ask that in the interest of our young children and in light of the upcoming holiday season the public respect our privacy during this difficult time.”

For you gold diggers out there, Kobe has made more than $180 million in salary and is estimated to be worth about $360 million by CNBC’s Darren Rovell. The couple reportedly did not have a prenuptial agreement. So whatever the settlement was, Vanessa and the girls will be well taken care of.

They met in 1999 when Kobe was 21 and Vanessa 18 on the set of a music video. They wed two years later.

No jokes or snide remarks from me. Divorce with young children in the family is never a laughing matter.

Its really bout to get ugly in Laker town! no more Phil Jackson, Odom, Shannon brown, and maybe bitter feelings from Bynunm and gasol because.of trade rumors and now this baby mama drama! Will it affect his game?

      • 00maltliquor - Dec 17, 2011 at 4:03 PM

@ 973yenots…Drama like this ALWAYS happens before the season starts in Lakerland. This is nothing new.

    • mrwilson1234 - Dec 17, 2011 at 10:15 AM

WTF, estimated worth about $360 million……………for doing what? Give this fellow a Nobel Prize.

      • brooklynbulls - Dec 17, 2011 at 10:51 AM

For making billions for the Lakers organization.

      • therealhtj - Dec 17, 2011 at 1:20 PM

And now he gets to kiss half of it goodbye

      • africanballer - Dec 17, 2011 at 2:21 PM

        for what? are you kidding?

    • bankshotter - Dec 17, 2011 at 10:37 AM

I was thinking more along the lines of Wilt 2.0 c’mon Kobe time to trot out the ‘phillies’ and show us if any are as beautiful as your wife. just this week in SI you are quoted saying, “I really love my wife”. brilliant!

      • atwatercrushesokoye - Dec 17, 2011 at 4:47 PM

He’d better get some gift baskets ready if he’s going to compete with Jeter for the title of Wilt 2.0.

  2. tampajoey - Dec 16, 2011 at 9:17 PM

First Odom left him and now Vanessa.

  3. ogre2010 - Dec 16, 2011 at 9:21 PM

    Why I’m not surprised

  4. phaktor333 - Dec 16, 2011 at 9:23 PM

Finally…after years of keeping up the charade, she has done what she planned to do all along. Its like a mutual fund of sorts…she got hold of it when it was just entering into the heights of its earning potential and stuck with it during the ups and downs. Now, there is no more reason to hold onto it; jump out complete with the golden parachute, which ensures years living in comfort. Meanwhile the fund becomes old and antiquated, destined to be used and cashed out by several others in her wake. How come athletes cannot see this coming when they decide to marry these broads?

    • david8726 - Dec 16, 2011 at 10:40 PM

So you’re saying every woman who marries an athlete is a gold digger? That’s it?

How the hell can you possibly paint her as the villain in this when Kobe is the adulterer in the relationship?

      • goforthanddie - Dec 17, 2011 at 12:12 AM

phaktor333: she knew what she was doing…especially doing so right before the regular season. She had the whole lockout to do this.

If you’re implying she playing mind games, I think Kobe’s already over it.
And if she was a gold-digger, so what? Kobe got what he wanted. High-end female companionship doesn’t come cheap, he was paying on a “permanent” basis, and requested the supreme “Mommy” package. Now it’s time to pay the bill.

      • david8726 - Dec 17, 2011 at 12:15 AM

You’re acting as if couples never stay together after one person cheats on the other. Married couples have adultery happen, go to counseling, and stay together all the time.

Those two have two children. How do you know she didn’t TRY to work things out and stay with him for the good of the kids and because she actually loves him?

For some reason, you just want to assume the absolute worst.

      • 973yenots - Dec 17, 2011 at 5:43 PM

She may not be a gold digger, but you can’t tell me she didn’t know what comes with the territory! Magic, Chamberlain, and others talked about all the women they slept with! She knew what the possibilities where of him being unfaithful! Whats reality!

      • chuckj1234 - Dec 17, 2011 at 6:45 PM

Yes he did. Actors etc. all cheat.

    • digitalpoo - Dec 17, 2011 at 12:32 AM

She’s smarter than she looks if you’re right.

      • cordae - Dec 17, 2011 at 8:16 AM

Maybe she tried to stick around because she actually BELIEVED in her vows. You know, “til death do us part”. Cheating is wrong, but the vows are the vows. He went out and got the 4 million dollar ring on his own. As for why she could’ve filed now, I dont know, and neither do you. So quit assuming because I’m pretty sure they didnt have a three-way marriage that included you (phaktor333). In other words, shut up because you have no idea what went on in their home…

  5. trollaikman8 - Dec 16, 2011 at 9:24 PM

I will punch someone in the face if she gets a reality tv show.

  6. allball23 - Dec 16, 2011 at 9:25 PM

Yea I think his game fall off just like tigers

  7. trueballs - Dec 16, 2011 at 9:29 PM

    • trueballs - Dec 16, 2011 at 9:55 PM

totally kidding btw…but the all-caps did trick you into thinking I’m that dumb

      • chuckj1234 - Dec 16, 2011 at 11:24 PM

No knew that before the caps.

    • semperfiguy1011 - Dec 17, 2011 at 6:36 AM

He was never going to be Jordan anyway. For those looking for the next MJ, there isn’t one!

    • adeedothatswho - Dec 22, 2011 at 2:16 AM

Actually, cheating on his wife and paying off a massive divorce settlement makes him EXACTLY like Jordan. All that’s left now is one ring and getting Joe whacked for not paying your gambling debts.

  8. isujames - Dec 16, 2011 at 9:40 PM

Jordan’s wife left him years ago and compared 2 what kobe’s wife will get miniscule.

  9. Gordon - Dec 16, 2011 at 9:40 PM

  11. 700levelvet - Dec 16, 2011 at 9:49 PM

360 million…No Prenup…??? Smart move..Now, the real question is…Which professional gold digging Kardashian slut will be knocking on Bryant’s door?…

    • semperfiguy1011 - Dec 17, 2011 at 6:38 AM

He can’t be that stupid! Could any athlete be stupid enough to date one of those gold digging media whores?

    • parkcityute - Dec 17, 2011 at 1:59 PM

I hope Kobie has his shots up and takes a few more for exotic diseases because he will need them if he goes for a Kadasian slut. That could really shorten his career.

  12. dirtybird2020 - Dec 16, 2011 at 9:59 PM

    Buy her another ring!!!!

  13. bozosforall - Dec 16, 2011 at 10:04 PM

Looks like he finally beat the crap out of her one too many times. Good for her! Get out of this abusive relationship!!!!

  19. larsonjs - Dec 16, 2011 at 10:51 PM

It is so sad to see another marriage breakup. Kids are watching and they are learning that commitment doesn’t mean anything. I wish celebrities would realize that whether they like it or not, they are role models to impressionable kids. Fame and the wealth that comes with it brings responsibility.

  20. greatminnesotasportsmind - Dec 16, 2011 at 10:51 PM

Will Kobe give out autographed basketballs in his gift package like Jeter?

    • goforthanddie - Dec 17, 2011 at 12:04 AM

      I’ll take one.

  21. bearsrulepackdrool - Dec 16, 2011 at 10:55 PM

Looks like Shaunie O’Neal just got a new recruit for VH1’s Basketball Wives.

    • Kurt Helin - Dec 17, 2011 at 10:53 AM

What do you want to bet that is in the settlement papers.

  22. tarheelchief - Dec 16, 2011 at 10:56 PM

I guess the onwer of the jewelry store who set up Kobe for the first ring couldn’t get another woman to pull him into the arms of temptation.
After you buy a $3-4 million reconciliation ring, you should quote Flip Wilson:
“The devil made me do it.”

  23. 00maltliquor - Dec 16, 2011 at 11:02 PM

Man, that’s sad. She’s gonna take him to the cleaners!!
Kobe, WTH were you thinking? No pre-nup!

Hottest NBA wife ever! Basketball Wives LA, here she comes!

  24. jleo78 - Dec 16, 2011 at 11:12 PM
