Kobe Bryant’s wife of more than 10 years, Vanessa, has filed for divorce.

This has been in the works for a little while, Vanessa signed the papers on Dec. 1, Kobe responded on Dec. 7. The papers were filed on Friday in Orange County with Vanessa citing irreconcilable differences.

We know your mind just flashed back to Eagle, Colo., and the sexual assault charge from 2003, but that was eight years ago and she stuck with him through that. There are rumors of infidelity, but we don’t know what really went on inside the Bryant household that led to this, all we really know is this can’t be easy for their two young daughters, ages 5 and 8.

The couple released a statement.

“The Bryants have resolved all issues incident to their divorce privately with the assistance of counsel and a Judgment dissolving their marital status will be entered in 2012. We ask that in the interest of our young children and in light of the upcoming holiday season the public respect our privacy during this difficult time.”

For you gold diggers out there, Kobe has made more than $180 million in salary and is estimated to be worth about $360 million by CNBC’s Darren Rovell. The couple reportedly did not have a prenuptial agreement. So whatever the settlement was, Vanessa and the girls will be well taken care of.

They met in 1999 when Kobe was 21 and Vanessa 18 on the set of a music video. They wed two years later.

No jokes or snide remarks from me. Divorce with young children in the family is never a laughing matter.

    She looks like a Whordashian.

I live in miami and chicks like Vanessa (Kobe wife) are a dime a dozen. The whole world knew this would happen one day and so did Kobe. Kobe had no prenup…..thats like sex with no condom with a girl from a strip club. Who on earth told him that was a good move…Vanessa and her family. The winner in this mess is the guy who Vanessa dates next or maybe the guy she is already dating now. Vanessa will now be paid more than half of the players in the league and she hasn’t made a jumpshot or gotten drafted.

I wonder if David Stern will veto the divorce

  4. mashoaf - Dec 17, 2011 at 1:00 AM

Maybe Gasol will have his head in the game during the playoffs this year

  5. footba11joe - Dec 17, 2011 at 1:17 AM

Damn, first Stern vetoes the CP3 trade and now Kobe’s marriage!?

All that’s left for LA is …..an EARTHQUAKE!

  6. zblott - Dec 17, 2011 at 1:58 AM

They met when she was 17. They got engaged the same month she turned 18, so I’m guessing the ring/question was the birthday present since she was finally legal and it was no long statutory…oh, that word again.

As much as I empathize with their situation, can a ‘celebrity’ couple really expect privacy in a matter like this? She sits courtside wearing the value of my house on her fingers, dangling from her ears, and around her neck, but then wants to be anonymous when things aren’t happy in paradise? Doesn’t quite work that way. Kind of a glass house type of thing.

Why is this even in the news? Who cares?

  9. 1historian - Dec 17, 2011 at 8:39 AM

There does not seem to be a whole lot of love here – just the usual cheap shots and the like from the safety of cyberspace.

Merry Christmas to one and all

She was probably getting it on with Delonte West.

I believe in CA there is an even split of assets acquired during the marriage, and alimony to the woman to allow her to continue to live in the way in which she has become accustomed, plus child support. It’s going to be a big number.

    • Kurt Helin - Dec 17, 2011 at 10:42 AM

As the article said, the number has been settled between them already.

  12. henryd3rd - Dec 17, 2011 at 9:56 AM

Kobe! Can you spell “Prenuptial Agreement”? Google that term and the next time get one executed before you remarry. Excuse the pun; but you are about to get killed in divorce court.

    • snotienose - Dec 17, 2011 at 10:08 AM

There is no court, the article says they’ve already settled everything.

  13. snotienose - Dec 17, 2011 at 10:06 AM

I heard she’s moving to Dallas to be with Odom! Hee, hee.

As for the article, she was just a kid when he met her and coralled her.

I hope she gets more then half of everything he’s worth, he’s a scumbag.
Watch the Lakes self distruct now, a big loosing season coming up.

Man! What a bunch of cynical turds! Maybe some should let their wives edit before they hit the “Post” button.

    Some facts:

    1) The ones who DIDN’T read the article missed that there will be NO cleaning in divorce court, as they have already settled the financials. Doesn’t sound like a lot of acrimony there. None of the snide commentors have a CLUE as to the arrangement. CA Family Code is very specific as to the rights of both parties and the children: has been that way for YEARS before the Bryants got married,

    2) They BOTH were young and not so smart 12 years ago, essentially a kid of college age and a high school grad. Yeah, there are a LOT of boys and girls that age who think beyond the moment or a decade or more ahead. And the young Bryant certainly had agents and lawyers at his back at the time.

    3) The older child was an infant in summer 2003. There are a LOT of wives who stay in marriages “because of the children”. Ignoring that shows the ignorance or the commentor. Kobe denied all the allegations, the case was found against the accuser. Vanessa “stood by her man”. Kobe obviously wanted the marriage to continue at the time. Sure as hell don’t sound like the Woods marriage when Elin found out!

    4) One can ALWAYS enter into a “post nuptual” agreement at any time during the marriage in CA. Both sides can get lawyers and come to mutual arrangements to protect their perceived interests. (I know this firsthand) Either party could have done so, neither asked for it.

    5) The article’s last sentence says it all. Too bad so many a$$ho!es can’t read and learn.

And this is front page news why????

  16. lrg51 - Dec 17, 2011 at 12:57 PM

A beautiful woman who knows his potential… and a horny unfaithful man full of lust with earning potential. Money can’t buy you love… but it sure can deliver the goods.

Payback can be hell… unless your name is Vanessa Bryant.

  17. bigmeechy74 - Dec 17, 2011 at 1:13 PM

    She is beautiful

I remember when Allen Iverson would say ‘No one is squeaky clean’

What seems apparent here is that ALL of the comments blogged today so far are coming from some of the most narrowminded, insulting, degenerative thinkers on the planet. And if even a single one of you is supposed to represent MANHOOD or the male thought process, SHAME ON YOU ALL! Did anyone consider the fact that these people were actually married, for 10 years, not 10 minutes as is typical for the so called relationships of today. Your comments denegrate this young woman & mother, who seemed to have actually loved her husband, and was willing to work through with him what had to be one of the most challenging issues any family could face. Infidelity is not a joke. Marriage is supposed to mean more than “we can stick together until you piss me off or do something wrong”. I applaude Kobe & Vanessa for maintaining their relationship this long, and I have no doubt it took a great deal of prayer, compromise and faith in each other to withstand the public scrutiny that goes with any level of fame in todays ADD society. The entire focus here has been about MONEY! Oh, and the real stupid ones got caught up in the size of Vanessa’s breasts! Typical! Yeah, and the ‘sportscaster/invester breakdown REEKED of a testosterone deprived idiot if ever there was one. So boys, put your penis’ back in your pants & turn off the porno stream. Dig deep to find some symblance of compassion and clear thinking. Marriage is supposed to be about LOVE, not money, or what position you play on the court, OR who has you by the balls!
