2011-12 Season Preview: Minnesota Timberwolves

Dec 15, 2011, 9:15 AM EDT

Spanish basketball player Ricky Rubio wa AP

2010-11 record: 17-65

Head Coach: Rick Adelman, his first year on the job in Minny.

Key Departures: Sebastian Telfair, Lazar Hayward

Key Additions: Ricky Rubio, Derrick Williams, J.J. Barea, Brad Miller (who is out injured to start the season)

Best-Case Scenario: Adelman, Rubio and Williams turn the Timberwolves into a run-and-gun force made of tweeners, with Rubio running the break with aplomb. Look, we’re not sure how good the Timberwolves are really going to be, but they are going to be fun to watch. They will have some SportsCenter highlights.

More likely scenario: The Timberwolves are a complete mess full of players with overlapping skills that don’t play defense, and Rubio’s rookie season is disappointing due to his inability to score against NBA defenses.

Prediction: 20-25 wins and a trip to the lottery — which is good for the Hornets who have the rights to their pick.

Teams like this should not be allowed to trade their first round picks

Drobstad- you mean teams that have traded 1 first round pick ever and this one was traded 5 years ago by Kevin McHale. I am sure you know this right? You wouldn’t be just making stupid statements about something you don’t know right.

      What team do you follow?

    Playoffs?

Rumor has it there’s a three way trade between the Lakers, Celtics, and Wolves, sending Kobie to the Celtics and Garnette back to the Wolves, and Love to the Lakers.

T-Wolves could very well have a turnaround year and become competitive. All of Rick Adelman’s teams have been playoff contenders. They have enough talent in Minny, they just needed a good coach to lead them the way.

I would totally agree with this statement if they didn’t have a lockout. We will them come together like they should near the end of the season

Sounds like a bleak forecast. If they get to 30 wins id be shocked.

If they got to 30 wins in a 66 game season I’d be ecstatic.

what did we give up our 2012 first rounder to the hornets for? i know it was part of the chris paul deal but it seems like we just gave it to them.

never mind, i found it. its from the cassel trade back in 05 of all things. we do have utah’s first round pick still.
