There is new Greg Oden news, which means there is new horrible news

From the Oregonian’s Jason Quick:

Breaking: Blazers determine center Greg Oden has suffered setback, and restructure his one-year deal for a lesser amount…

…But the Blazers, who didn’t comment Thursday after his appointment, determined that he is less likely to return to the court this season.

Ugh. Looks like another year lost for the former phenom and 2007 #1 pick. Hopefully, someday, Oden will get healthy and have an NBA career instead of going the way of fellow #1 pick Yao Ming and fellow teammate Brandon Roy and being forced to retire early, but at this point, that seems to be very much in question, even though Oden is still only 23 years old.

Oh man. When are the Blazers going to give up on this guy? He will never play another game in the NBA. Bad knees are simply bad knees. Cut your losses and move on. Realize you’ll never compete with the Lakers, just satisfy the fans with 40 wins and give away A LOT of t-shirts.

    Wow…….hang in there Greg.

hopefully in 20 years this will all lead to a great espn 30 for 30

Jesus man…. first roy now oden both having to retire in their 20s? Wow. Cursed franchise.

Man and he was a sure thing an yet I remember Durant not having “an nba body”. He wasn’t going to be able to hold up to a 80 game season. That’s the ESPn smarty pants for ya

I feel bad for the guy but the oden pick is going to go down with bowie over Jordan as the all time worst picks

  5. goforthanddie - Dec 9, 2011 at 8:58 PM

Where is this “news” you promised?

  6. sunsation3413 - Dec 9, 2011 at 9:04 PM

Bowie over Jordan. Not really. Injuries don’t compare with lack of talent. Just bad luck with the injuries. Hope Oden can just move on and get his life on track. He seems like a really nice guy and I wish him the best.

  7. bigtganks - Dec 9, 2011 at 9:21 PM

How can someone be this brittle? Most people get injured and it’s “week to week” but with him it’s “year to year”. Unreal.

  8. rich610pa - Dec 9, 2011 at 9:46 PM

damn it must be nice to get paid big bucks to sit court side every year. the blazers organization must be a bunch of retards to pay someone just to retire

  9. passerby23 - Dec 9, 2011 at 9:53 PM

Unfortunate for Oden and Roy. What kind of durability and explosiveness will even be left for Oden IF he’s able to overcome this setback? Even if he’s able to make a go of it, he’ll be a marginally athletic, foul-proned big. Probably time to call it a career as well for Oden.

man. I feel so bad for this dude. He seems like a nice guy too.

Has anyone ever thought about the superstar of today compared to the athelete or superstar in the 70s, 80s,and part of the 90s?In baseball, basketball and football the longevity, production, health, and years of quality service seems to shorten.I dont believe its a coincidence at all either.

He still made his money for potential and after the book, he’ll make more money. Just keep pics of your junk off the net and you’ll be alright.

23? Seems like this guy was drafted ages ago.

  18. Josh Perez - Dec 12, 2011 at 8:07 AM

Good news for Oden; NBA 2k12 is out and he is in the Blazers roster. Hope he is a gamer cause it looks like that is a close as he will ever be to play an NBA game.
