And forget getting Butler. Something smells like Caron is gonna turn into R.J. part2. They already gave up a lot to get rookie SF Kawhi Leonard. They'd be better suited trying to get Thaddeus Young instead of just staying old and beat up.

The Spurs had an amnesty on Richard Jefferson LAST YEAR. It was called, HE OPTED OUT OF HIS OWN FREAKIN CONTRACT! Then they just preceed to pick him right back up and sign him to another horrible contract! The Spurs should just be forced to keep him due to that idiotic maneuver.

Has anyone figured out yet whether players picked up in an amnesty auction are tradeable?

Jefferson could be a cheap pickup for a team looking for a competent 3, but they may not want to be on the hook for him for three years.

If, say, the Hornets took him and kept him through the 2011-2012 season, could he be traded during the 2012-2013 offseason? And if so, what is his salary value in a trade calculated? Off what the Spurs are paying him, what the Hornets are paying him, or some other calculation similar to Base Year Compensation?

"This would drop the Spurs below the luxury tax level, to $65.2 million on the books heading into the season."

isn't the salary cap still around $58 million? How is $65 mil below the luxury tax level?
