Yes, I am sure the CBA vote will be based on internet trade rumors, which, in this case, as Kurt said, are hugely unlikely to happen.

You need to say something with some substance. Do you think that:

a) All-Star players should be prohibited from being able to change teams, through some sort of very strict franchise tag and other restrictions?
b) Dwight Howard and Chris Paul have been with their teams for seven and six years, respectively. Do you think they should be forced to stay longer, even if they don’t want to?
c) The NBA would be better off with a hard cap, if (hypothetically) it lead to a league where maybe 8-10 teams had a franchise guy and a group of 52-30 teams clawed it out for the title every year? I don’t think a hard cap would actually lead to that, but guys like you appear to believe that it would and seem to think it’s a good idea.

So, drop the assertions and the emotional BS and faux-superiority and try dealing in specifics for a change.

dwight howard would look really nice in knicks orange and blue right now and maybe they can swing a trade…oh wait no jim dolan threw every tradeable asset he had into the melo deal so we’re stuck with what we have right now and we have to sweat it out and hope that the magic (or i guess the hornets) decide to try and sign dwight or chris paul and they want to come to new york bad enough to sign in the offseason

Cap space, I love Gasol, but not many teams have the space to take on his contract, and the odds arent too good that the teams that would be willing to do it are the ones that have the space or good enough picks, especially after an off year.

Lets be fair on this issue. Dwight Howard is a household name across the nation, he’s on countless commercials, on the cover of video games, and is the icon of his team.

Andrew Bynum is maybe the third or fourth best player on his team, will never appear in a commercial over stars like Pau or Kobe, and by all acounts does not look to be the incumbent dominant force on the team.

An example….even when Shaq was the “big dog” nobody not enough Shaq could deny the talent and coming dominance of Kobe. You dont see that happening with Bynum. But you can easily see that happening if Dwight was in a Laker Jersey. Likewise you could also see Dwight in the Lakers jersey in every same commercial he’s still in, and not causing any impact to Kobe who still has his commercials and success.

Whether anybody wants to accept the business of the NBA. The Lakers are SHOWTIME, and when the NBA wants to push their most talented players to the forefront of the NBA, they send them to the Lakers, not to the Magic.

Stern wants Dwight to be a Laker more than any Laker fan does and more than any Magic fan does not. That is why Dwight will be a Laker.

I think Chris Paul is probably a stretch, but I think it was always likely the Lakers end up with Dwight Howard. The Magic mgmt really wouldn’t have a say, just like with Melo Dwight will dictate where he wants to be traded or simply leaves via F/A and still decides where he wants to go. I think the unproven (but large ego) Jim Buss would be the biggest impediment to the Lakers getting Howard. Jim Buss is very proud and loves to repeatedly point out that he drafted Bynum, he wants more than anything for Bynum to be the face of the Lakers franchise moving forward – which would cement his legacy in the process.

Lakers need PG more but if they give up Bynum, then Howard makes more sense. Maybe the Lakers could trade Gasol for a draft pick or two, then bundle those two picks and a few of their own for CP3.

I hear you ‘balls, but PG (which the Lakeshow needs desperatly) and C are the most important positions in the league. CP3 and Dwight are both young AND the best at their respective positions in the game. This would make the Lakers younger, and competitors fo years, even after the Black Mamba is gone. Plus no matter how mad fans are at the NBA and its lockout, all will be forgotten and tickets would be sold out for a decade in L.A.!

Point is, if you can get the best PG AAAND C in the league for an aging Gasol and injury prone Bynum. You DO IT!

For the record, I am not at all in any way in favor of blowing up the Lakers current squad. AT ALL. But in this scenario you would be a bleeping fool not to.
