With a restrictive salary cap like the NBA has, loyalty only goes so far.

The Blazers can’t afford to keep him around eating up about 25% of their cap space if they’re only going to get about 1/2 a season out of him.

I’m not crying for him, though, because NBA rules say that his salary is guaranteed even if he’s cut through amnesty, give or take any option years that clearly won’t be exercised. It’s not like an NFL contract where you’ve got the guaranteed money in the signing bonus and then the contract money that most players never actually receive.

Maybe the team that “drafted” him will take him on. We have nothing to lose being a Wolves fan.

It’s so sad. But a much needed move.

This is also the reason why I support players like Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James and their decision to move where they want at any cost.Teams have no real loyalty to these players, once they are deemed used up/ washed up/ overpaid they cut ‘em loose/ trade them with the upmost quickness.Why should these owners expect them to stay if they don’t want to be there? .Gone are the days of when superstars stay a decade with one team.

Roy “captures imaginations”? Look, he’s a solid player & seems like a genuinely good dude, but let’s lay off the over-the-top hyperbole.
