Friday night video: Remember how great Magic Johnson was

Nov 18, 2011, 9:56 PM EDT

I’ll admit my bias up front — Magic Johnson is my favorite player of all time. We talk all the time about the next Jordan or the next Bird (although there will never be anyone like them), but we can’t really talk about the next Magic because 6’9″ point guards with impossible court vision do not exist. Magic was one of a kind.

We should talk about his accomplishments off the court, those will be his greatest legacy, but for us hoop fans we should not forget just how great a basketball player he was. So via my man Darius at Forum Blue & Gold, I give you maybe the best Magic compilation ever.

Be amazed.

He was one of a kind. To him and to a select few others the game was an art form.

    It was jazz.

    I am a Celtics fan

“I’ll admit my bias up front “…Kurt, that is a start. Now only if you exhibited similar candor in reference to players in general. Baby steps, I suppose.

Magic is my favorite player of all time as well, and I’m a 33-year-old Lakers fan. I’m the same age as Kobe, loved the Shaq-and-Kobe era, and grew up during the Jordan era, but nobody embodies the spirit and joy Magic brought to the game. I’d argue that there isn’t an athlete, in any sport, that made team sports as joyous to watch and love as Magic did.
