From what I’ve read, and I could be wrong, the owners are not offering 51%. They are offering a 51/49 split in the owners favor. if the league makes a certain amount of money, then it would switch to 51/49 in the players favor. So basically, if the players (who keep telling us the league is 100% them), perform and bring in fans, they all make money.

I would love that at my job, “you do your job well, you get an instant bonus”. That’s not how ANY job I know of works outside of sales (who general have a crap salary), but I’m sure the players will still talk about how the owners are “trying to put them back on the plantation”

For the record, you have to screw up pretty bad to lose money in the NFL. Teams lose money here and there for a year, bu the league as a whole makes money.

The way things went down with foreign leagues this fall may actually strengthen the players’ antitrust argument, since the overwhelming majority of NBA players have and would be unable to secure jobs overseas.

Billy Hunter should be fired. Its obvious decertification is the players only leverage and he waited too long to use it. Before the threat of decertification the owners wouldn’t except a penny under 50/50 now they’re willing to go to 51%? That tells me the players probably could have gotten 53 or 54% if they would have decertified months ago and threatened an antitrust lawsuit.

Aren’t antitrust laws federal, though? Meaning the suit would be against a federal trust, not an international one, right?

Honest question, I really am not familiar with the antitrust laws at all.

If the BRI was reversed at 57/43 in the owners favor, what’s the big deal…Give the owners their share of the glory (money-greed)….Does “any” NFL teams lose money, of course not, they rake in the money. Add in the fact No One makes the salary’s-benefits like NBA Players and they would still be the highest paid athletes in sports the WORLD over @ 43/57…The NFL is a Unique product confined basically to the U.S. and Canada; Basketball is played throughout the WORLD so the players also have the option to take their “talents” elsewhere….~Yo player you are not a partner in this venture, only an employee like the rest of the 99% of the World, get over it, sign the deal and play ball~

Why? You’re making money overseas. So your argument for decertification is not relevant because any player playing in Europe that signs his name can be singled out that the NBA does not break anti trust laws, because you have work else where playing basketball.
