No, BRI is not in addition to salaries. If the players get 50 percent or 57 percent or whatever of BRI, then their salaries will combine to come to exactly that percentage. To make sure that happens, a percentage of every NBA check is held back (last time 8 percent of every check off the top) and when the season ends and the books are figured out, the players get back enough of that 8 percent to make it the exact BRI split. Last season they got the entire 8 percent back, other years they got none back. But the BRI split is salaries.

Let basketball implode. The stupid owners own fault for over spending millions of over rated stars. Now they want to low ball the players. When you’ve “shown the money” to the players all these years, it’s a lot harder to cut back.
Both sides are too stubborn and stupid to know that they’re only hurting themselves.
BTW, the US is in a recession and on a brink of another, so you guys crying over millions and billions aren’t going to get any sympathy from the normal American public.

The pathetic thing about all of this is that the players contracts don’t change. The BRI is on top of whatever they make in separate checks. 50/50 after expenses sounds more than fair to me.

1) Players need to accept 50/50 after expenses
2) Owners need to lower ticket prices so that average Americans can attend games
3) The system needs to allow for more player movement
4) They should put out a BIG apology for all fans who patronize their lifestyles by forking over their hard earned money!

So doesn’t this essentially mean that the owners are offering a 50/50 split of profits? They take money off the top for expenses, which they pay to the players for benefits, etc, plus for renting arenas, paying for salaries of other people in the organization, paying in advance for supplies, etc, etc, etc. And then once all the expenses are cleared, they split the profits 50/50 with the employees. And that is unfair how?

So basically, the players want 52.5% of the GROSS REVENUES that come into the NBA. Over half. Of all monies that come in, right? To me, that is ridiculous.

There is no CBA!!! So the players aren’t giving anything back to the owners. There is no CBA. There is no CBA. There is no CBA. The owners started current negotiations at 43/57 split, hard cap and no guaranteed contracts. They are now at 50/50 no hard cap and guaranteed contracts still being used. Players are relying too much on the last CBA, which is no longer relevant to the conversation. Until they forget about the last CBA, there will be no deal. Maybe it takes a year off for the players to forget the last CBA.
