Wade needs a math lesson. 10000 fans per game on home 36 games (out of 72) paying an assumed $100 per fan to attend a game (which all numbers could be excessive) only gives 36 million in revenue for a team. Thats only about 18 million revenue to split on a 50% overhead rate.
One player could eat that payroll. Think about how much each team needs. One coach gets a million bucks. I imagine they pay for that with the concessions.
Now, granted their is a lot of tv money, but that has to be split among a lot of owners and also pay for players. . Also stern is saying a lot of financial numbers are not being met as arena’s are half filled. Now, I don’t care about these billionaires and their toys but both sides have to open their books and be practical.

When stiffs like Andre Igudala make 15 million a year, 90% of the teams lose money, you can’t make trade, most areas are half empty, it cost $300 to take your family to a game, then hard decisions have to be made to try and save the game. By your logic, labor contracts would never change for either side. “Sorry, players, you agreed in 1956 to 10% of gross revenue, lifetime contracts with no free agency and I can cut you at any time. I find it humorous, how many people would let someone point at you and talk. Owners if you made a bad deal before that’s your fault. If concessions need to be made be fair. But just because previously you made a bad deal you can’t punish the players for that. David stern is a jag off. Owners of leagues don’t seem to realize this is a players league without them you have no product. Meet in the middle and both sides shut up. And the people that post stupid shit about players. You probably have more in common with players than owners

1-Why are these non-player-reps doing there? Protecting their own interests? They elected people to represent them, get them out of the meetings.
2-Stern may have his job because the owners hired him, but he’s unemployed if there’s no players. The quicker he stops treating them like children (and I don’t mean this particular incident, I mean everything), the quicker we have hoops.

this is stupid a lot of the teams werent profitable last season so they NEED to fix this. The players are just throwing a fit cause they are gonna make less money they can take a pay cut. And i know people probably think “what about the benched players who dont make millions each year”. Well they make at least $407,000 every year so they should just learn to budget their money. Its the people like the refs and sports bar owners who are really gonna have problems from the lockout

I am willing to bet Wade won’t be getting as many generous fouls calls next season as he has been in the past. Something tells me the unofficial memo to NBA refs is that Wade no longer gets the “superstar treatment” from the officials.

Perhaps David Stern could take a slice of Howard Stern’s work schedule and just work 3 days a week with 11 weeks vacation feathered in.

His reign has perpetuated mega-millionaires with egos larger than the paydays. You really think finger-pointing and tongue-wagging are going to downsize payroll, at this point?

Stern has allowed the market sort out what the fans are willing to pay and now you wish to wait until lean times to scold the superstars for not willing a market correction?!

Perhaps Mr Stern would be so kind as to forego his salary since the NBA is in such financial duress. You know, lead by example?

I feel for the 10,000′s who supplement their income working at the arenas and parking lots. Even charities will suffer. As far as the rich go, they’re the least of many concerns.

Exactly. Most players in the NBA talk as if they have no other forms of income after their careers are over. In the real world, people work. Besides, the average NBA “end of the bench / practice player” could live comfortably for the rest of his life if he invested just two years worth of salary. For example the Nuggets have the lowest NBA payroll. The lowest paid player on the Nuggets earns $963,000.

Just another reason the owners need to stand firm. They are putting up the money to own teams, and the players want to run them. Let Wade and James buy a team in Milwaukee or Sacramento and see how great the system is.
