They will be the Brooklyn Nets, Jay-Z will open the building

It’s became official Monday — next season they will be the Brooklyn Nets.

To open their new arena — the Barclay Center — hip hop mogul and minority Nets owner Jay-Z will do a series of concerts, something that also was announced on Monday, something the New York Daily News told us to expect. The odds that Beyoncé joins him and “Empire State of Mind” are performed are both pretty good.

The first concert is expected to be Sept. 28, 2012, followed by a few weeks of events before the Nets first preseason game in the building.

It’s a common practice to have a musical act christen a building. For example, Bruce Springsteen opening the Staples Center in Los Angeles, then walked out in the first show and said there were too many luxury suites in the building.

Also worth noting, the Nets are selling “all-access passes” which include prime seats to all Nets games, free food, access to exclusive clubs and bar areas, plus first dibs on concert tickets and more. The price? Just $15,400 a pop, about what you have to pay at Madison Square Garden.

But it may be the only way to get those Jay-Z tickets.
