If you choose to overpay someone who you should know can’t live up to the money you’ve given them, the only person you have to blame is yourself.

Lewis has always been a borderline all-star player. He’s a guy who should have been given a contract worth 10-12 million dollars a year. Any clear thinking person should have been able to see that Lewis wouldn’t magically start playing like a max-player just because you’re giving him a max-deal.

But Orlando gave him that huge contract anyway, ignoring all common sense.

Lewis took the money because that’s what anyone would have done. All an athlete can do is play the game as hard as he can and sign the biggest deal that comes his way. He doesn’t set the market for his talents…… the owners do.

2nd off, while you can’t blame him for signing that contract, you can blame him for not living up to it. In most every other profession, if you are not performing at the level your salary demands, you are fired.
