Has Tyreke Evans developed a reliable jump shot?

Aug 25, 2011, 1:35 PM EDT

Tyreke Evans, John Salmons

Tyreke Evans is a beast when he drives the lane. Just a couple years into the league he is one of the best penetrators in the league and he finished an impressive 59.8 percent of shots when he got inside.

But if you could keep him outside it was a different story. He shot 25.2 percent from 3-9 feet, 25 percent from 10 to 15 feet, 33 percent from 16 feet to the arc and 29.1 percent from three. Half of Evans offense came either in isolation or off the pick-and-roll, but there was an easy way to defend that — lay back, go under the pick and dare him to shoot the jumper.

So this tweet from ESPN’s Chris Palmer caught my attention:

Repeating myself: Looks like Tyreke has lived in the gym this summer. Shot looks terrific.

If he develops a steady outside shot not only will things open up for his offense, it will open up for all the Kings. If Evans is going to be a guy for the Kings to build around — their Derrick Rose or John Wall — he has to find that jumper.
