Report: Houston to host 2013 NBA All-Star Game

Aug 10, 2011, 7:02 PM EDT

The 2012 All-Star Game will be at the brand new Amway Center in Orlando. Well, if there is a 2012 All-Star Game (remember last lockout the All-Star Game was a casualty to the owners and players greed).

There will be one by 2013, and it looks like we may be going back deep into the heart of Texas.

MyFoxHouston is reporting the Toyota Center will again host the games in 2013, as it did in 2006 (hat tip to Eye on Basketball).

NBA sources told FOX 26 Sports the Houston Rockets and the City of Houston landed the NBA All-Star Game in 2013.

The game will be played at Toyota Center on Feb. 17, 2013. NBA All-Star week will be Feb. 15-17.

The 2006 experience got mixed reviews from event attendees. The NBA (like the NFL does with the Super Bowl) likes to keep the event in a warm-weather city most years because this is a three-day long party that includes some outdoor events and concerts. Hence Los Angeles this past season and Orlando next season (if there is a next season). The league even went to Las Vegas once even though there is no NBA team there (never again by the way, the locals hated it).

That said, in the next couple years expect the new Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn to grab one game.

Pesonally I think it should rotate among all thirty teams. I don’t think there has ever been a All Star Weekend in Salt Lake, even though its cold and has no night life. Can we just have one All Star Weekend please in my life time, its only fair.

No offense, but if the NBA All star game was held in Salt Lake City no one would want to attend, due to the Strict religious doctrine of the Mormon Church. I heard in some parts of Utah that you can’t drink any alcoholic beverages & does Utah even have any Strip clubs? However, you do have a good point since Utah dies support an NBA team & have a right to host the game!

In the past, the NBA has held Feb. All-Star Games in Detroit, Salt Lake City, New York City, etc. I think the Salt Lake city All Star year was in the early 90’s. The year it was held there it was COLD, snowed, wind blew. But there were plenty of restaurants and bars and as far as I know today, there are not limits of alcohol consumption anywhere in SLC.
