How can you say that 90% of the league plays bad defense? Sorry but that’s obviously not true. There are good defensive teams and bad defensive teams in the NBA. Minnesota is in the bottom third of the league in defense. Beasley’s play on that end of the court just one reason why.

And yes, he was inefficient. Like Gugurich said, he finished the year with a below average TS%, yet he still took a billion shots. His injury isn’t an excuse. Lots of guys get hurt and still post above average TS% numbers.

He’s been in the league for three years and his player efficiency rating has actually gone down every year. I can’t even believe that that’s possible.

The expression on Durant’s face shows the difference between an All-Pro and what will probably be a journey-man in the NBA. Not too mention the whole “I get paid to do this” line. Because with the lockout aren’t you technically not getting paid? Why does it seem like Minnesota teams always have a guy like this?

Not to mention your post only tells half the story. His defense was too often lazy. I am a a Timberwolves fan and watched many games. Our problem usually wasn’t scoring but stopping others from scoring. He need to dedicate his athleticism to both ends of the floor.

This has nothing to do with whether Michael Beasley is a good player or not. What is troubling (especially after watching the video of the incident) is that this behavior (by the heckler and Beasley) is encouraged. This whole in your face, gangsta lifestyle/attitude is ridiculous and benefits absolutely no one. Yeah sure, everyone is tough and bad. Fact is, they all look ridiculous.

He had a ridiculously hot stretch but cooled down after that and didn’t pick it up again the rest of the way. Whether it was nagging injuries for 30 percent of the season, he again finished with a below-average True Shooting Percentage. The league average is 54 percent and he’s finished at 52.8, 50.5 and 51 in his career. It’s not so much the percentages from the line or from three but the quantities. He doesn’t get to the line enough or make enough threes to overcome a mediocre percentage from 2 point range. He’s inefficient. 19.2 points on 17.1 shots is not an example of efficiency.

First off let me point out I’m not a Beasley fan, nor believe he will ever grow up. But to say he is “bad” or “inefficient” or “one dimensional” is plain out ludicrous. For about 70% of the year before he had his nagging injury he was averaging close to 23ppg, shooting 48% from the field and 40% from 3, while also being one of the top rebounding SFs in the league. His defense is awful, but so is the defense of 90% of the league. On the court he could be a stud in a couple years. I use “could” loosely because in reality it’s more than likely not going to happen because of his immaturity. That is all.

Agreed, Beasley’s too inefficient and one-dimensional to be a good player but there is no way Williams is a 3 despite what he thinks. He played center at Arizona. He rarely brought the ball up the floor. He set picks rather than used them. He almost never took a jumper off the dribble. His feet didn’t look quick enough to guard out on the perimeter.

Beasley was one of the least efficient offensive players in the league given how many shots he took and his commitment to defense is non-existent. He’s too soft to play PF and doesn’t have the quickness or desire to chase opposing SFs around the perimeter. He’s just not very good.

If Derrick Williams can, in fact, play both the 3 and 4 the way he claims, then Minnesota would be foolish to play Beasley any more than they have to. There’s just no point to throwing Beasley out there when we already know that he’s bad. Williams should get all the minutes so he can develop as quickly as possible.

My team, the Heat, drafted him #2 in 2008, We’ve learned a lot from that disaster, but I’d say the most important thing is that you should really heed warnings about a guys professionalism, focus, and overall character coming out of college.

All those questions were swirling around him before the 2008 NBA draft, but the Heat (and nearly every other team) were ready to take him #2 because he was super talented.

Professionalism and a commitment to both ends of the floor really does trump talent.
