The first time that Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was arrested for petty possession of cannabis was in Denver in 1972. 1972 was the second season for which Mr. Abdul-Jabbar was named league MVP. Mr. Abdul-Jabbar was also arrested in 1999 and 2000 and the fact that he’s a card carrying Californian claiming the protection of the California’s Compassionate Use Act (CUA) and Medical Marijuana Program Act (MMP or SB-420) to this day is well known. I suppose now that he’s cancer free he’ll have to go back to using migraines as his qualifying medical condition.

When does the stupidity of cannabis prohibition end in this country? Seriously, I wonder how the people in Denver in 1972 who weren’t the NBA’s MVP who were arrested for petty possession fared. Since that was pre-decriminalization, I would presume nowhere near as well as Mr. Abdul-Jabbar.
