I do like the thumbs up/down. It doesn’t even matter which one you get. Pissing people off and getting thumbs down is just as satisfactory as getting a thumbs up if not more.

IMO, i would say that it has to do with our (fans) obession with ranking everything and everyone. That’s why you see all the shows on NFL Network about who’s in the top 100 players. Or who is the all time greatest basketball players. You saw it with Dirk this post season: “where does Dirk rank all time now?” ESPN’s horrible “Who’s Now” show. In the ESPY’s you get to rank who had the best team this year, who was the best NBA player, who was the best this and that. It’s more stuff for websites, radio hosts, sports shows and the like to discuss, argue, and disagree with. And we as fans feed in to that. As much as we hate it, it’s what we show them we want by ratings, which drives what they talk about on said shows (ie…LeBron, Lockouts, Gay Slurs…). Unfortunately, ratings aren’t as high for conversations like “Why the Mavericks won the Championship” ….”USA Womens Soccer”….ect.

They have the ESPYs because baseball sucks. It is almost like having no sports until football starts…I hope.

Cuban would have sent the NBA front office $2 million and told them the other mill is for “the next time I choose to hang out with my boys”.
