Kurt - Let's be clear about the Lakers situation. Those 20 employees weren't "laid off", their contracts weren't renewed. Of those employees, Ronnie Lester, Assistant GM, is the highest profile. The rest are mostly scouts but also include guys like the 20 plus year equipment manager.

I'm not sticking up for the Lakers and how they handled this, according to Ronnie there has been a total lack of communication from the front office regarding the situation. As a Lakers fan that doesn't endear me to the franchise any more because that's a crappy maneuver. But to be honest, I think the Lakers make that move regardless of the lockout in order to let Jim Buss get his people and imprint in place. I DON'T think this has anything to do, necessarily, with the lockout. IMHO.

I guess there must be something I am missing. How is this offseason any different then any other offseason. I realize there is a lockout going on, but in every offseason there is no games going on. No revenue being generated by teams in the offseason, whether the NBA is in a lockout or not. Why do they need to lay these people off?
