Because if all he cares about is winning, that would be the role that suits him and the team best.

There is more to basketball than just scoring points. He’s not a good enough passer to be a point, but he’s not a good enough defensive player to log major minutes at the two guard. His game is PERFECT for the 6th man role. Its not a knock on Ellis at all. I’m actually a big fan of his.

Then again, your comment is probably what Monta’s mindset is right now.

My advice to Monta is to learn to play DEFENSE, that would immediately improve the ‘roster’.

Monta Ellis would thrive in a Jason Terry role. The question is, would he accept it?

I say no, as of right now. As he gets older, and closer to retirement, he may finally see the writing on the wall.

I would say he is more of a homeless man’s version of AI. Iverson is a first-ballot lock Hall of Famer man. He took a team of scrubs to the NBA finals and within about 2 minutes of a 2-0 lead coming home. Ellis is a nice player, but please don’t put him in the class of AI.

I don’t know how you win with a guy like Ellis, unless he has 4 defenders around him.

The NBA is all about defense to win.

All this talk about the new Warriors, and then they go out a draft a shooter that can’t play a lick of D, to go with their 2 undersized guards.

Ellis may be more than a Vinnie Johnson type, maybe a Jason Terry if he’s willing to come off the bench and at least learn a little defense.

They had that last year with dorrell wright, he led the league in 3s…it didnt change a thing, they need size, they need to get a true center and a bench. theyve been an undersize team for quite some time

I think they could be alright with Curry at the 1 Monta at the 2 and Klay at the 3.. that would be one of the highest scoring trios, all 3 of those guys can shoot. They would be undersized and bad defensively but you could have Monta in a slasher/kick-out role with Klay and Curry, two of the best shooters to come out of the last few drafts, getting open looks.

That said I dont think you can contend with a team like that so if they are to move Monta it is imperative that they get a legit big back. I would never swap Monta for Iggy or someone of that caliber, that’s just a waste.
