If you look at the issues in negotiations, it is hard to blame the owners for wanting a hard cap instead of all the exceptions. In looking at the NFL labor negotiations, they are likely to come out with a minimum amount that teams need to spend too, a salary cap floor. I feel it would behoove all of the major sports to force teams to have this salary cap floor, as well as a hard cap with no exceptions.

But I disagree with the owners wanting to shorten the length of deals. If a team overpays a player to a long contract, they should have to live with the consequences of their mistake.

“Cutting off the nose to spite the face” is an expression used to describe a needlessly self-destructive over-reaction to a problem: exactly how many of the NBA owners are acting right now. Sheeesh!!

Fix the existing problems over time, don’t burn the building to the ground.

It’s unfortunate that the ratings are high because the league will think it was a great show. It was not. Draftees went to the podium and put on a team hat and yet they were not going to that team. Frequently, nobody could figure out who was going where because trades had been made but not announced. Stern should look at the NFL draft next year. Not the time of each pick, though.
