Maybe the T-Wolves aren’t on Stern’s A list for contraction right now, but it’s a well known FACT that he has tried in the recent past to get them contracted. No pot-shots whatsoever; that’s a fact.

Sorry purdue, the Wolves are not on the “A” list for contraction. They might make the “C” list at best. The Wolves have plenty of fan support, even when losing. Minnesota loves their Wolves. They aren’t going anywhere and they certainly are not getting contracted. New Orleans? Now there is an “A” list for contraction, but not the Timberwolves. Stop smoking crack.

You can rip on Kahn all you want but he’s actually made some pretty solid moves. Beasley, Rubio, Randolph and Ridnour far outweigh the Flynn mistake. Webster will come around and Darko’s D is worth his contract. All you do is take pot-shots like saying Kahn is from a cracker jack box. I hate to be the one to break it to you, but, without facts your comments are from a Cracker Jack box.

phil… you seem to forget that the Wolves are on the “A” list of desired contraction candidates on Commissioner Stern’s list!

No matter though; until your Wolves get a GM from somewhere other than a Cracker Jack box, you’ll be as doomed as Cubs fans are so long as Jim Hendry is their GM!!!

Cubs…. 102 consecutive years of not winning a championship and closing in fast on year number 103!!!!

Thumbs up to smitheye! (For once) Seriously though, it would be a major mistake to trade B-EZ. Now’s not the time, you can’t expect every whippersnapper to buy into a losing season whole-heartedly. B-EZ is a natural scorer, the T-Pups have Randolph, Wes Johnson and Rubio to play D now. they have Anthony Tolliver to hustle on D, B-EZ’s D will come in time 9and hopefully Love’s). Derrick Williams has potential as a defender, but it’s guaranteed he will not bring the offense B-EZ brings to the NBA EVER! Do not trade Beasley! Trade down, grab Kanter, do what you have to do, but Williams is not in the cards for the T-Wolves (coming from a guy who thinks Williams is the best available talent in the draft this year too). Sometimes the stars align in such a way, deal with it. There are other assets available (Monta Ellis??)

First of all… Kurt you should be nothing but a Lakers beat writer because you are nothing but an idiot when writing about other franchises. Derrick Williams is not even close to as talented at Beasley hands down, there is no comparison. And since when is shooting 45% from the field awful while averaging 20ppg. If that were the case 75% of NBA players would be out of work. The only someone decent point you have in this article is that Beasley doesn’t play defense, which is true. No one in the NBA plays defense but a select few until playoffs… Kevin Love is legitimately one of the worst defensive players in the league, fact. You know nothing about the NBA and how basketball is played.. Keep riding off your ridiculous blog and quit thinking you know what’s real life.

bigt… Two things:

1) Williams has a lot more uncertainty with regards to his ceiling that Beasley did coming out of college. Beasley’s never been taught to play defense, because as his teams star player in college he was never asked to. Defense can be coached though; and

2) Doesn’t matter what that fumblebutt GM of the T-Wolves does… he’s sure to pull yet another boner.

I bet a team looking for some scoring punch off the bench, like the Mavs or Bulls would still be interested in Beasley, character issues or not. He may not be the greatest of guys but he certainly kept his nose clean in Minnesota this year and put up a pretty solid season. Now what the Wolves will get for him is a whole different story.

The funny thing is that Beasley is extremely talented. I think Williams would be an upgrade because he has the athletic ability to be better on defense. This is the main problem with Beasley. He will get into the groove and make some shots and then starts to think he is an unstoppable scorer. He will take some of the dumbest shots I have ever seen.

I still think it may be smart to wait until right before the trade deadline before we move him but that is just me.

jeff: Hopefully the next CBA in the NBA will bring with it the same kind of rigid drug testing that MLB and the NFL have adopted to get rid of the many pot-heads in the league. Why wouldn’t Stern and the owners want that?

How about Portland though taking Beasley? It wasn’t just that long ago that they were known as the “Jailblazers”, and based on my many trips to Oregon I think that there are probably more pot-heats up there than in any other NBA market.

For whatever reason, some guys in all pro sports just need to be bounced around a bit (no pun intended), before they finally find the right spot and situation to succeed. Beasley had enough talent to be taken #2 overall in the draft (whereas Thabeat was taken #2 overall strictly based upon his huge size in a draft otherwise totally devoid of good center prospects).

I would think that Beasley’s obvious immaturity could be tempered by going to a team that has a few strong veteran team leaders as well as a strong coach. Surrounding him with kids as the T-Wolves had to do clearly isn’t the answer.

A great example of a guy (albeit not one with any known character issues), is Keith Bogans. Bogans had been with something like five other NBA teams before he found a home this year in Chicago, starting every game the Bulls played this year. Bogans isn’t good enough to be a starter, but that’s not the point. The point is that he’s finally found a team with which he can succeed.

Michael Beasley is not what any team wants. When one of the worst teams in the league in trying to get rid of an undersized young player with serious character issues (weed) to improve its culture, exactly who do you think will take him?

I’m a middle aged white guy with two bad knees who never could jump and Beasley couldn’t even guard me! No surprise here; the prudent thing to do is to draft Williams #2 and shop him to a contending team deep enough to be able to carry him as a shooter off the bench. He wouldn’t be a bad fit as a reserve for the Bulls with Taj Gibson playing opposite him on the 2nd rotation team. He’d be an upgrade over Ronnie Brewer at least.
