Nowitzki says finger injury may affect dribbling, passing

This is not about to stop him — Dirk Nowitzki is going to be out there on the court against the Miami Heat on Thursday night with a splint on the upper half of the middle finger on his left hand (non-shooting hand).

He can adjust his shot and how he uses his guide hand (you can pretty much bet he will have taken hundreds of shots between Game 1 and the start of Game 2 with the splint on). It will be an adjustment, but with all the awkward shots the guy hits, it’s pretty easy to see him knocking down jumper after jumper, splint or no.

But the rest of his game may be an issue, he admitted to the Star-Telegram (and other media at the NBA finals).

“I don’t think it’s going to be necessarily bothering me on the shot,” Nowitzki said before Wednesday’s practice. “It’s not like you do anything crazy with it.

“It’s going to be other stuff — dribbling, passing, catching, swiping down — stuff like that. I think it will be OK.”

Nowitzki was his average self in Game 1 — 27 points on 7-of-18 shooting. What Nowitzki and the Mavericks learned is that their average selves — even their average playoff selves — is not going to be enough in the finals. Dallas is going to need better, more efficient shooting and playing all around. And that starts with Nowtizki.

INTERPRETATION: Isiah Thomas doesn’t think Lebron is good enough for him and Magic Johnson to “freeze out” at the NBA All-Star game >> . . . However, in six years . . .

What a wuss… Making excuses already

What i don’t understand is why did he even say he was injured, especially such a minor injury? I understand that it can alter his game, but to tell the media and everyone about it just seems dumb. You know Haslem is going to force him left, and be physical especially on rebounds. He should have just taped it up and gone about his business. No one would have suspected anything.

i agree but i know in the nfl you have to report injuries or u get fined. not sure how the nba is

      • southbeachtalent - Jun 2, 2011 at 2:39 PM

nfl, you do not have to report injuries especially if you can go. Seems odd that he would admit he’s hurt.

Example- Wade “seems” to have a sore shoulder even though he keeps on denying it.

yeah i dont get it then. i dont think he is the type to try to look good, like oh oh im hurt then put up 60. but the decision to let everyone know makes no sense unless he had to

Nowtizki is a stone cold killer, he will be alright. im a sixers fan but the mavs are exactly what i would want the sixers to be like one day, i love the way they play ball. Dirk deserves a ring

I agree with you on that, he does deserve a ring.

      I, however, have an agenda.

hah, i am sure u do. good luck, not sayin that sarcastic. lebron is starting to grow on me. just cuz he gives his all and someowhat toned down the whining. he still drives me nuts with some whining but i got respect for his game by watching how bad he wants it. i will still be rooting against him cuz i really like dirk

if Dirk is going to be getting Double teamed, then someone else needs to step up, whether it be Terry, Marion or Barrea…if Dallas fails to win game 2 and has the same performance as game 1, i’d consider playin Butler, supposedly he has been practicing and hasn’t been cleared for contact, but i’d really consider playing him. Although i’m sure he’d be hella rusty, down 2-0 why not take the chance. Dallas overall IMHO is a better TEAM than MIA. Dallas has got to play better and Stojakavic and Terry need to hit their 3s when their open
