I would love it if Jimmer could develop a passing game like Stockton, Nash, Rondo, etc. If he did, it would be hard to stop his team.

There was 1 comment by 1 insider that said 1 GM suggested this was the case. And it was specifically referring to the speed and D drills during day 2, not day 1. People have tried to expand that to be a general feeling by a lot of important NBA execs.

Jimmer’s overall athletic measurements from day 2 (vertical + sprint + quickness + strength) ranked #12 out of the 54 draft prospects at the combine. Not bad for a kid that supposedly (1) lacks athleticism and (2) wasn’t giving it a full effort.

I’m not saying the Jazz should draft Jimmer. But he’s definitely a very substantial talent that should be considered. He’s a much better passer than people realize. That will come out in the pros where he won’t be carrying the bulk of the offensive load and will be surrounded by capable scorers. And his range + driving ability will open opposing Ds. Jimmer’s high-end potential is very high. Suggesting he could become a long-term starting pg for the Jazz is not insane. Is his potential higher than Burk’s? I’m not sure.

White Iverson? Jimmer has a crossover and can score. That’s where the Iverson comparison ends.

If the Jazz take Jimmer it won’t “turn Derron into Fredette.” They will also have picked up Favors (future super star), Harris (mediocre pg) and either Kanter (athletic center) or Williams (likely future super star). Additionally, they get Golden States’ 1st round pick next year.

That’s hardly trading Derron for Jimmer.

In his 2 workouts (Chicago combine & for the Pacers) he’s had two NBA 3-pt drills. At the combine he went 18 of 25. At Indi he went 18 of 22. Those weren’t under duress, but it’s clear NBA range isn’t a problem.

How is he like a white Carmelo Anthony? I don’t see even one similarity between the two.

Not saying Jimmer isn’t a hard worker, but scouts and GMs weren’t impressed at how he was just coasting through the first day of the combine.

Still, he’s a perfect fit for the Jazz. He’s a freelance player with creativity. With the new post-Sloan era in Utah, there will be less structured sets for Fredette to flourish in.

Jimmer is so much better than people give him credit for. The way I see it, he’s a white Carmelo anthony with a smaller ego and a better work ethic. That last part will be important during the lockout. Guys like Jimmer will put in the work during the lockout and will rise above other rookies who are too lazy or not dedicated enough to. Just saying.

To me, Fredette at No. 12 makes all the sense in the world for the Jazz. That’s an immediate public relations boost, a guy who wants to be there, he’s a proven winner, and a prolific scorer who can learn behind Devin Harris and be a spark off the bench. In a notoriously weak draft, it’s not like it’s a bad move. Fredette isn’t a guy I would want to pass on.

I would take Kanter at No. 3. which gives the Jazz plenty of depth upfront.

I hope Utah management is smarter than to take Fredette with either pick. They drafted Hayward last year and after getting some playing time in the second half of the season he showed promise. There’s no reason to throw Hayward under the bus because someone with passable offense and atrocious defense just graduated from BYU.

Utah’s late season struggles stemmed from their lack of an offensive orchestrator. Drafting a shoot-first guard will not fix that problem; if anything drafting a white Iverson will only exacerbate the problem. It was bad enough that they had to watch Sloan walk away last year and then trade Williams to New Jersey. If they turn Derron into Fredette they will deserve the mediocrity that ensues.

The 2 teams that I continually hear is the Jazz or the Suns picking him up. It would not be a smart move to take him at 3rd overall though. I like his quote though he is saying the right things.

I’m pretty sure every idiotic pasty white mormon wants every other pasty white mormon to play in Utah.

Sure the fans will come out in droves and they’ll be home in time to watch the post season where lots of other teams who make logical decisions with their picks end up.

That being said, I don’t think there’s a team in this league that wouldn’t draft Jimmer just for his shooting ability alone. Every team needs a guy who can hit long shots.
