It is also true that the Earth doesn’t wouldn’t need the sun if it had a huge hot magnet there instead, but that ain’t happening either. There was never any way that Shaq would remain healthy, and Jermaine is no longer in the same league. If Ainge had left it alone, with Perkins starting and Shaq, Jermaine, Big Baby, and Semih Erdan filling in as necessary, Boston would have had home court advantage over the Heat, who would be licking their wounds right now.

The other part of the trade — Jeff Green to replace Marquis Daniels — didn’t work out one bit either.

Perkin at least seemed larger than anyone in the Heat’s roster. As long as he can move around in the paint (better than Shaq), he could have made the change. Nonetheless, it is true that the Celtics didn’t need Perk if Shaq and Jermaine were healthy … so the problem is that Ainge expected too much out of the aging O’Neals.
