No. Mike Dunleavy was the coach of the Blazers when they lost to the Lakers in 2000.

Still, I agree with the general point. Adelman is probably the best choice for the Lakers.

I'm with Delfunk, Adelman might very well be the PERFECT fit.

With Portland he came within one 4th quarter meltdown of winning the West Conf in game 7 against the Lakers. Then with the Kings 2 years later he came within one ridiculously lucky Robert Horry 3 with 1 second to go in game 6 and then lost in overtime in game 7 to again lose the conference to Phil and the Lakers. Both times with inferior talent! He would have won both NBA Finals those years against Indiana and New Jersey respectively whom the Lakers annhiliated (NJ in 4 straight). Then he goes to Houston and wins what - 22 games in a row with no Yao Ming. This guy is definitly one of the best coaches in the league in getting the very most out of his teams' talent and HE IS HUNGRY! This would be the most talented team he's ever coached and he is respected and liked by his players and HE IS HUNGRY! That hunger will revive the Lakers. Exactly what they need.

Lakers fans need to be patient? THEY need to be patient? They have a successful team that can still make good playoff runs, and they've gone to the finals three of the past four years. What about other teams that have been patient and really close but have never won a title? Lakers fans are completely spoiled and ignorant. It will be good for them to go a WHOLE year without a finals run.

Gunslinger...I completely agree!!! The core is still capable of winning at least one more title...but they do NEED a point guard. Love fish but his time has passed. Need a PG that is quicker and can keep up on the defensive side. Fish was a great player and an even better person but it's time for new blood at the point. I'd much rather see Shaw then Addelemen good coach but can't get his teams over the "hump".

You won't need to "Blow up the team" in a few years because most of the older guys will be gone anyway. It is a natural process but until then they will still have a very competitive team because of Kobe, Gasol, Bynum and Odom. Most teams would like to have that core right now for the next few years. These guys can still win.

I think Adelman would be the perfect hire. He's been a great coach for years, he probably would have at least won one title if it weren't for Phil Jackson's Lakers and Bulls teams. Let's not forget how well he had Artest playing. The Lakers need to get away from the triangle... I think the Lakeshow would be better off hiring someone from the outside.
