Karl Malone made an entire career out of doing so. Boozers not even close to being in his league in that regard. It’s a function of creating space on rebounds so that those pesky guards are too intimidated to try and take the ball out of the hands of guys who aren’t exactly the best ball handlers in the league. Part of the position Boozer plays; part of the game!

The NBA is also so hyper-sensitive these days about referee’s, the old “hometown officiating” crap has for the most part gone away, but cutting star players more slack on calls certainly hasn’t. David Stern doesn’t want to see the leagues marque players foul out early in games, and that’s also just reality. Gotta feed the TV contract beast you know!

Even watch what happens to PGA TV ratings when Eldrick the Creep is out of the hunt on any given tournament? (I’m not sure tournament though really applies to the PGA because they incorrectly try and bill every stinking event as such). When Eldrick the Creep and Lefty are out of the hunt, millions of TV sets all over the country tune out or change channels.
