That is a double standard that you set it as. If I saw two basketball players fighting I would think “two guys fighting.” Same with NHL, tennis, golf, whatever. I don’t immediatly think of race. Frankly I could careless about race, I just want to see the action.

I don’t think he was making a racist comment or playing the race card. I think it’s more about perception and the racism that still exists in this country and the double standard that exists in sports. fighting in hockey is acceptable and people love it. Fighting in basketball would be “young black men who can’t control their tempers…thugs.” Like I said, double standard.

Why in the hell would race matter when it comes to fighting in the NBA or NHL? I’m pretty sure there is black, white, mexican, ect people in the NHL fighting each other on the daily. They aren’t fighting because they don’t like that person’s race, they are fighting because they have a beef with that person.

Attempting to pull a race card on fighting in sports is an epic fail if I ever seen one.

I think it’s hilarious that you use KG as a measuring stick for being “tough”. Kevin Garnett is the NBA’s biggest “all bark, no bite” phony hardass. From LITERALLY barking at Ben Gordon from the bench in the 2008 playoffs (in which he wasn’t even playing), starting **** with Jose Calderon, smacking Tim Duncan in the back of the head from behind, throwing a ball at Antonio McDyess then RUNNING away when McDyess came back at him, sucker punching teammates and countless other incidents, KG might be the biggest punk coward the NBA has ever seen.

Allowing fights in sports leagues is a balance between league image and the attention you get. Hockey is a league that has much fewer fans than the NBA and could use the highlights, excitement, etc. that is generated by a fight. The NBA would rather build a fan base through less provocative means. The dress code that started a couple years ago (players must wear collars to the arena and other limitations) is in line with this.

There is also the matter that the majority of NBA players are black, whereas NHL players are almost all white. Like it or not, that matters.

I wish fights were legal in the NBA. That would cure all of this fake tough guy crap. What is wrong with two grown men throwing hands when they both want to. It should still be an ejection, but let men be men. The boys will fall, and then they won’t get up talking any more crap. The NHL has something right at least.

Ron Artest ruined that video being about 100x better. No way the Pistons director of security would have been so on top of his game, and held Charlie back, had they not been so fight experienced at The Palace.
