Derrick Rose thinks Bulls are ready to win it all this year

Apr 6, 2011, 2:50 PM EDT

Derrick Rose

Derrick Rose wouldn’t be Derrick Rose without his swagger. His confidence.

So it shouldn’t be a shock that when asked if the Bulls — who have yet to get out of the first round — can suddenly jump to winning to winning a title, his response was yes. From the Waddle and Silvy show on ESPN Radio Chicago (via Sports Radio Interviews):

“I think that we can. I’ve been on teams where they always say that we’re too young and inexperienced and we made it pretty far. Last two years I was in the league, we went to the playoffs when nobody thought we were going to make it. In college, we made it to the championship game when no one thought we’d make it so why can’t we win the Championship?”

Rose played this well, but what else is he going to say? “Hey, I’m not sure we can get out of the second round.” You don’t want him thinking that, let alone saying it. Rose also says he doesn’t care who they face. He probably should, he probably does, but again what else is he going to say?

The Bulls defend well, which makes them title contenders. Their offense has been better in recent weeks, but will it be good enough against the better defenses deeper in the playoffs is the question. Rose will have to answer that one with more than words.

Using that logic, no team ever wins championships in different decades with new players. Oh wait that’s not true…happens all the time.

You sports analysts/reporters need to stop using the word “swagger” in everything related to a player’s personality. I don’t know who started this ridiculous trend to have everything be considered “swagger” but stop being cliche. It’s annoying and doesn’t even really say anything.

So he shouldn’t say that he doesn’t think they’ll win the championship, and he shouldn’t say that he thinks they can win the championship. Got it.

The Bulls have yet to get out of the first round?
Why should Derrick Rose bash his own team because some clueless idiot writer at Pro Basketball Talk does it on a regular basis?

How many teams are playing better than the Bulls this season?

Those are words coming from a confident and capable leader and it will filter down to the whole team. Nobody game him a chance either when he said “why can’t I be the best player in the league”. But I guess, he’s proving most writers and analyst wrong. This young Bulls team has the confidence, heart and determination to win in the east and possibly the championship too. Good luck & stay healthy!! I wish D Rose was playing for my team. Word of advice, Bulls should practice their free throws.
