Quote of the day: Van Gundy defends D’Antoni

Mar 28, 2011, 7:38 PM EDT

Mike D'Antoni

“As a coach, you don’t worry about that stuff too much because it goes with the business and we all will face a lot of criticism at times. That’s the way it goes. The rest of us all know tha tMike’s a hell of a coach. In that profession, we all know how good Mike is. Anytime things aren’t going well, I don’t care what team it is, the first target is going to be the coach. Mike knows that, we all know that, when things are going bad. I’m sure Mike’s not too worried about it. He’s a great coach.”

– Orlando Magic head coach Stan Van Gundy, talking about embattled New York Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni. The Knicks have looked out of sorts both defensively and offensively since trading for Carmelo Anthony, and are currently on a six-game losing streak. If the Knicks don’t turn it around before the season ends, many believe that D’Antoni will be fired.

The Knicks look like organized chaos, minus the organization.

many believe? really, that a fact? love that top-notch attribution.
he’s not getting fired. not with a half-assed roster and incorporating guys on the fly with something like 18 games in 30 days. at a minimum, he gets the full year next year. probably more depending if walsh decides to stay.
the only ones suggesting a firing are the ny beat guys who still have issues (deservedly) with senior msg management (read: owner), who’s kind of d-bag with their media policies.
that and they all write that same stuff when any ny team has a losing streak of more than 4.
    great analysis though.

stan van is the man, but he is so wrong on this statement. Ask nate, ask steph, ask larry hughs, or anthony randolph, i mean the list goes on & on of players he was not straight with. even though it appeared he seemed to have some sort of defensive scheme last nite, thats not always what happens. ive seen every knick coach since 1969. in my opinion he is one of worst.

Stan and Mike will be looking for jobs soon.
