It wasn't the development that Memphis botched. It was the PICK that was botched. They picked a guy who DOESN'T LIKE BASKETBALL. He has no desire to get better at basketball. He is a really nice guy who is just along for the ride.

He's worse than Kwame Brown because Brown at least had a scoring average in double figures during the 2004 season!!!

He came into the league as a project. He should have been treated as such from day one. That is what the DLeague is there for, right?
The dude may or may not be NBA-quality, but I'm thinking his development was botched by Memphis.

The 2009 NBA draft has proven to be one of the weakest in decades, with 9 guards selected out of the next 10 first round picks after this stiff was taken 2nd overall by Memphis (but thusfar not a single All Star in the bunch).

The old adage is that you "can't teach 7'3"", but that doesn't mean you take a big vegetable that can't play a lick either with the 2nd overall pick in the entire draft. The only thing surprising about Thabeet's ineptness is that the Clippers (who took Blake Griffin first overall), weren't the ones for once pulling such a boner.

The D-league though is an excellent and badly needed alternative. While it's true that it's mostly dominated by at best end of the bench prospects/suspects, it at least allowed Chicago this year to showcase former first round pick bust James Johnson (who went 15th overall in the same draft as Thabeet), in order to find a taker in Toronto and unload him for a 1st round pick (albeit a very low one, receiving next years Heat #1 pick in return).
