The OC/IE market is big enough to support its own team, and it has enough regional identity (separate from LA) to split from the Lakers if…and this is a big “if”… the Maloofs are willing to build a winning franchise. This is because despite everything I just said, OC fans are still as fair-weather as any of the other fan bases in SoCal. Arte Moreno figured out the formula a few years ago and although an OC basketball team will never make the inroads into LA County that the Angels have, they can consolidate around OC, IE, and SD if they put a quality product on the court. This is a move the Clippers should have made years ago, but Donald Sterling has never been interested in building a decent team.

They hate the Kings. No one is going to root for them. It is a disaster.

It isn’t like OKC or something. There are plenty of sports teams here for sports fans and the vast majority of people here do not care because there are plenty of activities keeping them occupied.

I do not see how anyone pays them 100′s of millions of dollars for the rights to air games of a team that no one cares about.

Nearly ever soccer team I played on was called the Orange Crush. I was like 5 at the time but I think it is a pretty common name around here.

Anyways, Anaheim Royals sounds terrible. This is a really bad idea.

I’m sticking with my initial feelings, the Maloofs are hoping to do so bad that the NBA has to buy them out.
