On the one hand, these folks might have had people to do and things to see. On the other hand, it’s not like they had to do anything but sit on their asses until Kobe was done.

Yes, I’m sure that whatever team officials that had to stay an hour or two later went home and said “Honey I’m home. I can’t believe it, I had to stay late because Kobe wanted to practice after the game. Can you believe it? What kind of a hole practices after the game?” More likely there were other things they did at the stadium to fill their time, while they cracked jokes about Kobe needing the practice! There are and will always be times where things come up and you have to work late. In basketball the reasons may differ from normal settings, but it’s part of their jobs. The media has really become something ridiculous these days. I don’t even know the words to articulate how far articles like this reach to make a non story into some sort of controversy.

I believe somewhere, somehow, it is in those employee’s job descriptions that they must maintain the facility until the last player leaves, or as their job otherwise requires.

They know what their job requires when they go into that arena every day with those superstars.

I also don’t consider this a “great story”. Kobe has paid his dues, and frankly, has earned the right to simply shoot around for an hour in his career on the road.

Matt Bonner leads the league in 3 point percentage for a team that is number 1 overall based on record. In reality, it was a jerk move if you consider the maintenance guys that don’t make that much money that want to go home to their families. I hate the Spurs but I’m not blinded by a man crush on Kobe either.

hahaha…Hack writer using Kobe to drum up interest in a rather insipid article. Matt Bonner-Shooting expert, seriously? The guy was irrelevant when he was playing, as he is now. Furthermore, the team wasn’t prepared to leave till the following morning.
