I like that comment mickdamill. makes me think of the ridicule he received after game 5 finals last year, “they know how to lose in the 4th quarter”, phil said… he got ripped BUT his words came true after that game 7. he who laughs last…laughs best. and phil is laughing all the time.

As much fun as it is for everyone to hate the Heat right now, this needs to light a fire under them. But for real, this team of cry babies need to wake up and give the public something to talk about. A big win over one of the leagues hottest teams may give them the confidence they need to turn things around. Although this is Phil Jackson we are talking about, I’ve rarely seen one of his great comments backfire.

Phil Jackson is the ultimate motivator, just watch how his comments will do more to motivate the South Beach Crybabies than anything Spoiled Sport Spoelstra can ever think to say. Phil’s correct that the NBA stands for No Boys Allowed, time for Queen James and his loser entourage to grow up and act like men. Unlike Spoiled Sport Spoelstra Phil knows that real men don’t cry and that Discretion is the better part of Valor! Phil knows when to keep his mouth shut about internal team strife and when to nudge his players with subtle verbal jabs. What a stroke of masterful wording last year when Phil told Ron Artest he needed to change out of his cement overshoes as a way to tell him to lose weight.

i think you are putting way too much thought into this. yes, it is phil joking around at an easy target but it also does play into the pysche of the Heat. you think right now that some guys on the heat are thinking about phil’s comment? oh absolutely. (probably james)..and in that, it may eat away at him, making him more tense, pre-occupied, or upset…ergo…a mindgame of some sorts. so yeah, i think phil is smart enough to know the weight of his words, knowing what to say, and when to say something. and yes, because he is phil jackson, 11 time final’s champ, he knows people listen…especially the heat on this certain insignificant little comment.

phil is like the dalai lama of the NBA…when he says something, people listen.

I don’t think that this is anything more than Phil joking around. Indeed, I believe this to be the case with a lot of what comes out of his mouth. He’s not unlike Popovich in that regard, just slightly more relaxed about it.

It seems to me that more is made of the idea that Jackson is actively playing mindgames with his opponents than is really the case. From his time as a player up until now, he has been an iconoclast, rebel of sorts, but who used to relish more of his status as a radical. I think back to his wild ways in New York, and on to his stoned demeaner on the bench in the early nineties.

Then, having delivered his Zen-like philosophy as an author, sports journalists have all-too willingly labeled his every utterance “mindgames”.

Phil Jackson is probably the best coach in the league past & present at mind games. He does it not only with his team, but also with the opposing team’s players & coaching staff as well. I guess that’s why he has more rings than his ten fingers. Right now, MIami franchise players is at a lost mentally and it filters down to the bench.

Phil played the game for over a decade and won a ring as a player, that alone gives him the right to rag on any sensitive guys in the league. suck it up punk, and this time when you’re ousted from the playoffs Lebron have the courtesy to congratulate the other team instead of pulling that run and hide thing you did last time chump….

the guy is a master at mind games. as a Laker fan, i’m not too worried about it. phil has earned the right to say whatever he wants.
