Blake Griffin, selling you some Kias (and it worked)

Blake Griffin almost didn’t do the car dunk.

Because there was a lot of paperwork to get done. Seriously. See Kia knew they wanted to do a commercial out of it so Blake’s people and Kia’s people (and a bunch of lawyers) got together and drew up the papers well in advance. Then it dawned on them late in the game they needed approvals from Baron Davis as well (he throws the pass out of the sunroof), so there was that round of paperwork. But they got it done and Griffin dunked.

And interest in Kia cars, Kia Optimas in particular, went up, according to CNBC’s Darren Rovell (just keep scrolling down).

What if Griffin had not made the finals of the Dunk Contest? Yea, like that was going to happen. Start inserting your conspiracy theories here. David Stern is the Illuminati.

But the commercial is done and running.

And here CNBC’s Rovell breaks it down for you.

I thought he was going to dunk over it the long way. That would have been impressive….mildly dangerous but impressive. As it stood, the dunk was ok. Personally, I liked the DeRozan dunks the best.

Nobody dunks like Blake Griffin ! Nobody makes mayonaise like ” Best Foods . ” Nobody makes movies better than Steven Spielberg . Quality is what makes the world go around . Griffin is the cream de la creme !

BG is good. He understands and is starting to master the showmanship aspect of “The Dunk”…So we can have endless arguments about Dr.J, MJ, Dominique and the rest and all shout and scream about who was more artistic…

For me — Give me the “Brute Force Dunk” nobody beats Dr. Dunkenstein (Daryl Dawkins) that’s the creme de la creme for me.

A dunk is good for two points. That’s all. One of these days someone is going to get hurt big time – the idiotic move over the car, embarrassing someone once too may times – one of these days it’s going to happen.

Basketball fans have poor judgement of value.
