I’ve been to a couple of Nets games, and even when they were good that place was empty. He is going to bolt like a mother after his contract is up.

Has it occurred to anyone yet how severely screwed the Nets could end up in this whole deal? If there’s a long lockout, NJ essentially traded a bunch of future pieces they have locked in place (including high draft picks) for a guy who could leave after only two months of playing time.

If the NBA really wanted to prevent these defections of star players from smaller market teams, they could consider a rule that significantly reduces the max amount a player can sign for if he is traded from the team that drafted him while in the last year of his contract. That would still allow trades, but there is a financial incentive to remain with your current team.

Also, to ensure that teams have an incentive to put the best team on the court, the max length on contracts should be 3 years. This way, if a great player is stuck on a bad team (or crappy organization), they don’t have to wait too long to bail.

They should start by changing that crappy logo. Though the Jazz mountains weren’t great for Deon either – he’s probably used to it.
