Instead of swatting fouls into the third row, he’d simply tip them to himself in order to trigger a fastbreak and easy points. Guys like Dwight Howard (and smaller guys like LeBron) should take note. All you’re doing by blocking a shot into the stands is giving the ball right back to other team with, more often than not, time on the shot clock.

His place in the highest pantheons of NBA lore is secure. I don’t know too much about the old days of the NBA but I know Bill made everybody aware of how important the “big man” in the paint is to the game. any kid who is 6’10″ and above dreaming of playing in the NBA should have a mandatory poster of Bill in their room.
