Jerry Sloan is a man who should have been named Coach of the Year more than once in his career. And for those old enough to remember him as a player, he was a hard nosed, blue-collar, lunch bucket type who backed down from no one. His defensive intensity was second to none.
Hats off to you, Mr. Sloan! Instead of calling for your resignation, the Jazz organization and the league should be throwing a humongous bash to honor you for your unparalleled career of dedication and professionalism!

I am a solid Laker fan but have nothing but respect for Jerry Sloan. He has always been a winner on and off the court. If he is being forced out I will be surprised because if anyone has earned the right to pick when they leave the business and on his terms it is Sloan……followed closely by Phil Jackson. I will reserve thinking the Jazz management are scum sucking low life until I hear the press conference and then after the conference when the real truth surfaces.

I am hearing that there was definite conflict between Sloan and Williams which culminated in a half time shouting match. The arguing continued after the game when the GM came into the locker room to see what the problem was. And the GM fired Sloan essentially in deference to Williams. As a protest, the assistant coach will step down. Disgusting.

Based upon other threads on other sites about this story it does appear that my assumption about a health issue is wrong. Glad to see that.

Wow! Talk about “end of an era”. Sloan’s been a class act since his days with the Chicago Bulls. If the stepping down is true, whether forced or voluntary, at age 68, all you can do is wish the guy good luck in whatever direction he decides to go into next. Well done, Jerry. You truly are one of a kind and you always represented the Jazz in a favorable light. Personally, I wish you’d been the Bulls coach all these years God bless.

Side note: should’ve said “step down” or something instead of “resign.” At first I just glanced at the headline and thought that he was going to “resign” a contract or continue as coach.

That is not good. Normally when something like this happens it is a significant health issue with the individual or someone close to them. Not a Utah fan but have always respected Mr. Sloan for his ability to work in that stressful environment for so long. Hope I am wrong.
