I was wondering that myself. Allegedly it keeps the muscles tight, in place, warm, preventing them from injury… although I’m at a loss as to what ‘injury’ they could prevent. I wear compression shorts when I play pick-up games, and since wearing them, have never pulled a hamstring (tore one previously, pretty painful thing). The arm sleeve is supposed to do for the arm what compression shorts do for the hamstrings is what I was told. Personally, I don’t think they do a thing; I think it’s the latest, stupid fashion statement. Wasn’t Iverson the first to use one of these things?
