Same here, truth be told Shawne Williams got a better 3 pt shot than Gallo. I would not lose any sleep if Gallo was traded, he's hot and cold. But i'd be upset if Chandler were dealt. But if I had to give up any two in the deal I would do it, but not all 3, but wouldn't be upset if Gallo and anyone on the bench were dealt. I think Donnie wants Carmelo, but at the right price, which is what any good business man should be thinking of. I also think the most dire position that should be addressed is the center spot, a starting center followed by a back up point guard. I want Carmelo here, but there are bigger holes in the Knicks that need to be filled first.

The more details I hear about this trade the more I think Carmelo should just ride out the season with the Nuggets or accept a short term trade to a contender. The Nets are 17 games under .500 and integrating 3-4 new players who will have large roles in a new system with a new coach will take time. Aside from Brook Lopez (who has the potential to be a good but not dominating center) all of these parts are older with atleast a year left on their contract. This year the best case scenario is rising from the bottom to the 7th or 8th seed. Next year the best case scenario is moving into the 4,5,6 range. Based on how he's playing at Denver with one foot out the door, is he really going to excel in that situation? After next season Howard and Paul will be free agents but will they really go to the Nets over the Lakers or Knicks? Then if that doesn't work out, based on everything we know about him, will he perform well the next two years? He would be seen as a Vince Carter type that no one would give a max deal to unless they are desperate. By taking the extension now with a team with so many future question marks, he risks greatly reducing his free agent value ( and a chance to win a championship) when his contract is up in 3 and a half years.

As a Knick fan, you're correct I do want 'Melo, unfortunately it's not that easy. I don't want to give up any combination that includes Chandler, Gallo or Fields. In fact of those three, the only player I would consider giving up would be Gallo (and my thoughts on that changes weekly). Donnie Walsh is very shrewd. He's been a great poker player his entire stint running the Knicks, so I trust him not to ruin what we've got going. The best offer I would send would be Gallo, Fat Eddy and his even fatter contract and whatever pick (if any) we could get out of Randolph. Thats it, and that may be too much honestly. I'd much rather see my Knicks go after some sort of real center and guard. I would love to see Carmelo in the orange again.. ('Cuse guy) but would much rather see Marc Gasol and O.J. the juiceman next year alongside our current roster.

I think Leon Rose has been in Carmelo's ear trying to get an extension signed. He's probably telling Melo that New York doesn't want him so that a trade can happen so that an extension gets signed before the new CBA so that Leon Rose gets more money.
