I’m not going to sugarcoat my prediction. Although Ewing was a great player, he will ever be a head coach in the NBA. Sorry, I just don’t see that happening. I see Ewing doing what Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has done over the years with the Lakers — helping young, NBA big men to become better players “inside the paint.” Hopefully, Michael Jordan is smart enough to have learned from his insanely bad decision when he selected Kwame Brown as the NBA’s number one draft choice for the Wizards in 2001. Ironically, after 9 years in the NBA, Brown is now playing for Jordan’s Bobcats. Apparently, Jordan still wants to prove all his critics wrong. Brown hasn’t had any playing time since the arrival of interim head coach Paul Silas. How can Jordan go from Larry Brown to Silas, and then hire Ewing as his team’s head coach? You get the picture!

Yeah it’s an exhibition, but it was flat-out embarrassing how bad the sophomores looked and what sort of crap Ewing was passing off as coaching in the huddles. The reason this is note-worthy is that he was specifically made a coach in the game because he wants to become a head coach. That means this was intended for it to be an opportunity to show what he can do. Go back and watch the game; he’s not a coach. At what point in his career, starting from his days at G’town, was he ever considered smart? Never, that’s when.

That rookie all star stuff is nothing to base a decision on, it’s an exhibition at best.

Ewing can coach. Can he be a head coach remains to be seen (different jobs) but he can coach.

How can you say he has not earned a chance to coach?? and why are you basing that decision on him coaching the sophmores in the all star game everyone knows no one actually tries in those games there just to have fun he wasnt running plays and set defenses. so for you to make that comment is just pure stupidity

Ewing has most certainly NOT earned the chance to find out if he can coach. He can’t. He coached the sophomores to a loss in last year’s All-Star Rookie Challenge (first rookie win since 2002 when that rookie class had WAY more talent than 2nd year guys) and he was NEVER known for his intelligence. He’s only an assistant because Orlando needs someone to work with Dwight full-time. He’s not a smart dude and simply wanting to be one of the 30 NBA coaches on the planet doesn’t warrant a try-out. If this happens, Charlotte will fall even faster than any of us could have imagined (if that’s possible).

Ewing was never an assistant coach on the Knicks staff. If fact thats been a huge issue for Knicks fans like me. He was with the Rockets and then the Magic.
