I can actually name a few reasons as to why Carmelo would not want to be "The face of the franchise" for the Nets. How about they aren't that good. If reports are true, which is a huge leap of faith nowadays, the Nets would give up Derrick Favors, Devin Harris, Troy Murphy and a pick for 'Melo. What would Anthony have to play with??? Travis Outlaw, Kris Humphries, Jordan Farmar and the laughably overrated Brook Lopez. The Nets as an organization are not run very well. They gave too much money to Outlaw, wasted money on Farmar, and depended far to much on Terrence Williams. All the while using the 3rd overall pick on a guy, who cant crack the rotation on a bad team. What does that tell you about the front office? Melo wants to leave Denver and get his money, but he also wants to win. Do you really think that roster is capable of winning, especially after seeing them thus far this season, and their awful season last year? Plus im not anywhere close to calling Melo a HOF'er already, he's got quite a ways to go in that regard, but he is a very good player nonetheless.

Why Melo doesn't see being the face of the Brooklyn franchise as a good thing is mind blowing.
He spends one season in Jersey building a fan base, making appearances in Brooklyn building that fan base and then he is off and running in Brooklyn, that franchise is going to be the one that kids all over the country are going to want to own gear from, kids across this country don't know anything about Brooklyn, but because of the name, its association with hip hop and it is NYC, kids are going to be sporting their gear. They do have to come up with a new name and slick color scheme, and hopefully they will.
Carmelo is passing up on being a legend...he already is a HOF'er.
