Batum on ‘Melo: “We know that he doesn’t want to play defense.”

Carmelo Anthony, Wesley Mathews

What was Portland’s offensive strategy Thursday night against Denver? How did Wes Mathews and Nicolas Batum end up with 34 points between them?

Batum said the plan was to attack with whomever Carmelo Anthony was guarding, he told the Associated Press.

“We tried to attack him,” Batum said. “We know that he doesn’t want to play defense.”

As for that offensive foul Batum drew that was Anthony’s sixth of the game and sent him to the pine…

“Every time he goes left, I know he’s going to spin. Almost every time,” said Batum, who added, “I was surprised they called it.”

Just mark it on the calendar, Tuesday Dec. 28 — the day the Nuggets face the Blazers again, this time in Denver. Anthony may well just go off that night.

Melo is the most overrated “Superstar” in the league. He’s always just ben a scorer who takes many contested long range jumper, and plays “hero-ball” as his main style of play. There are at least 10-15 other guys you would choose to start a franchise before this guy.

Thats why us here in Denver don’t care if he stays or goes. He’ll always just be defenseless Melo who gets boo’d and teased to hustle up in transition. You can sit 15 feet back from Karl and never hear him yell “MELO HUSTLE ON DEFENSE” He just lets him do what he wants. GET HIM OUT!!!!!!

If he’s not dealt in the next 3-4 weeks.

Wow. Carmelo is consistently the target of critics and is described as “overrated” more than any other star player in the NBA. New York could be in a bad way if they land Carmelo; as in disappointed that a team with 2 “star” players can’t win 45 games.

Even though my home team has absolutely no chance of acquiring Melo, I’m not sure I would want them to, even if they did have a shot.. I never hear Denver fans complain about the potential departure of Melo.. That should be a pretty big warning to any team that attempts to trade for him. Nobody knows their team or roots for the stars better than the die-hard local fans, and if they’re 50-50 about him, maybe he is drastically overrated

Were not 50-50 about him. Some of us want him out by now. I’ve been a die hard Nuggets fan for a long time. Even though I think Melo is a great scorer this is what he isnt:
      He is never consistent defensively.
He is not a cosistent or efficient scorer. 40 percent on shooting after taking 30 shots a night is ignorant.
He is not a happy fellow. His attitude problem sucks and I think thats the reason J.R. Smith acts the way he does, him and Melo are little buddies and still have thier gang ties back to teenage years.

More than likely whoever gets Melo is going to regret it at some point. It’s always nice ot have someone score 30 points per, but what if he can’t do anything else? HAHA.

        Well said!

If yall was paying attention, yall would have seen he said “We know Melo doesn’t want to play defense…so our game plan was whoever he’s guarding was to go at him” He wants out of Denver. If any of you pay any attention to Carmelo its obvious he’s playing just because he’s on the court. He’s not callin for the ball nor is he looking for it. But everytime he does touch the ball he makes something happen just to prove he’s unstoppable..i.e. the buzzer beating layup he missed goofin around. smh
