I’m sorry, but I think I’m missing something here as I am not much of a baseball fan as I’m an NBA fan: What exactly do anti-Yankee fans chant? What is the counterpart of “Beat L.A.!”?

Lakers fans definitely were not filling up Staples Center to watch that craptacular bunch but they do have decades of winning behind them. It is hard to call Lakers’ fans bandwagoneers when they’ve been watching a team contend (and win) for decades.

On the other hand, the Heat have been around since ’88 and have put out a contending team twice, now three times with the Three Amigos. Suddenly, they have fans everywhere…I didn’t see anyone rocking an Odom jersey in ’04.

“you” implies that I’m a lakers fan, which I’m not. Everyone knows LA fans are junk, watch their baseball games and they show up in the 3rd inning.

The criticism is still legit though. Same in Boston before the trades, 2,000 people showing up, now the Celtics and the Heat are die hard fans, please.

Were Lakers fans filling up the stadium to watch Kwame Brown? From 2005-2007 you were behind the Heat in attendance numbers and percentages of seats sold. Unfortunately, Miami’s an event town. Fortunately, we’ll have the best event in the NBA nightly for at least the next 4 years.

As a Laker fan, I’m highly amused and flattered that the chant “Beat L.A.!” has become iconic of sorts. A testament to the greatness of this franchise. No other team has elicited such institutionalized expression of envy from other fans.

The Lakers has been THE benchmark for upstart teams trying to get their own legacy.

As far as I’m concerned, there is only one other team that can even try to make a claim of greatness — the Boston Celtics.

The others are just pretenders, one-hit wonders, or still aspiring ones (getting there but not quite – see the Bulls, Spurs, and Pistons).

Bring it on, Heat!

Though I rather see another Boston-LA Finals. Getting that three-peat and Matching 17 all at the expense of the Celtics would be total bliss!
